Apparently this car is still around today. I found this history info on it: Acquired June 1953 from Winnipeg Electric Co. as Winnipeg River PM-5 Length 54' 6" 55 seats 27 tons
Built as gas-electric railcar Mack 163001 March 1928 Mc.Guire Cummings body, Mack 6 cylinder 135 hp gas engine. Rebuilt 1947 with streamlined nose and Cummins 150 hp diesel. www.trainweb.org/oldtimetrains/photos/shortline/GWWD.htm

The railway track, river and closest trees seem to be level in this photo, but the distant, sloping hillside looks "wrong". This was taken from Morant's Curve, which is a famous spot along the Canadian Pacific Railway. It's located on the western end of the Bow Valley Parkway near Lake Louise. We were lucky that a train happened to come by - many people sit and wait for a long time for that special photo. Taken on 15 May 2014, on the return journey to Calgary from a two-day trip to the mountains with friends, Cathy and Terry.
"The Canadian Pacific Railway had a staff photographer, Nicholas Morant, who took many photos of CP in the middle of the 20th century. Erected by the Alberta Wheat Pool in 1979, first of the type.
It was envisioned as an innovative design incorporating a 30° slope to improve loading, and perhaps reduce costs using pre-fab concrete bins.
Sold to Parrish and Heimbecker in 2000, who closed it in 2003.

Coming to work, I go under a train bridge. I noticed this coal train had some cars with mixed road names- a real mishmash. Some Union Pacific here, some Burlington Northern there... and this Rio Grande car! For non-traingeeks, that's not your typical coal unit job.
I ran out to the tracks after getting inside, and went to see if there were any more. Sure enough, there were.
See, the Rio Grande is one of my favortire railroads, and it operated only in Colroado and Utah. It was the fastest route through the Rockies. The RR existed up until 1989. It actually BOUGHT the Southern Pacific, yet retained the Southern Pacific name.
Then, Union Pacific bought the SP back in 1996. So, this car has seen two owners in the last 20 years, and still has its original decoration.
The Rio Grande "Speed Lettering" as it's called, is some of the coolest typography in all of railroading. That's why I like it. I also like it because of the terrain of its home rails, and it color scheme.
Consider yourself lucky if you see anything with this logo on it these days. "Rio Grande... the ACTION road!"
