Drôle d’ambiance, à Londres comme à Paris , les endroits désertés donnent accès à des perspectives intéressantes 📷

'Keep Feeling Fascination' Human League
Back in the day I think the job of train driver carried a real fascination for many. Here the driver of 1S05 the 07:00 King's Cross to Edinburgh re-joins 91118 for the journey north from York on the morning of 12.11.2016
The fabulous station at York was designed by the architect Thomas Prosser. At the time of completion in 1877 it was the largest railway station in the world. The station is full of fascinating arches and on the metallic arches there are wonderful spandrel.

Departing Nottingham Station.
Previously known as Nottingham Midland Station or simply Midland Station.
For those of you discovering my photostream for the first time, I'm not a railway enthusiast/anorak. Although this genre, as any other, is a good photographic opportunity.
Model : Denis , Paris.
Onboard the 9004 with my friend Denis who is driving his last train. He will be retired at the the end of the journey.
Happy retirement Denis.

On the 16th October I was lucky to drive my first Dinner Train.
There was a scheduled stop of about 10 minutes at the 'Westelijke Splitsing' before heading further towards Delft, Leiden, Haarlem and Amsterdam.
In the background you can see the high rise buildings from Rotterdam.
It is once again September 15th, which means that today we celebrate the Day of European Train Drivers.
May they continue to roam the rails of the world safely, enjoying their admirable profession!
PSA: I revised the album structure of my flickr page a bit, be sure to take a look around, perhaps you'll bump into some older stuff you haven't seen yet.
Here are a few of Ian's photos that he captured, while we were at Tarana railway station yesterday (Sunday)
Swanage heritage railway attraction still operates full-size steam and diesel passenger trains along the five and a half miles of line from Norden to Corfe Castle and down to the Victorian seaside town of Swanage. www.swanagerailway.co.uk/
At the Triaj B Palas yard in Constanța stands locomotive 60-1537, part of Romania’s long-lived Class 60. Built under license with the classic Sulzer 12LDA28 diesel engine, these six-axle locomotives have been the backbone of heavy freight and passenger services for decades.
Now operated by Grup Feroviar Român (GFR) and registered to GFR Hellas, this machine continues the workhorse tradition on the Black Sea lines. The rugged frame, Co-Co configuration, and characteristic sound of the Sulzer prime mover embody the enduring power of Romanian diesel traction.
From the cab, a driver leans into the light — a reminder that behind every engine’s performance is the hand of the railwayman, guiding steel and horsepower through the network.

Steam through the stunning Scottish Highlands in style. Our steam engines take you on a very special trip through the Cairngorms National Park as you travel between Aviemore, Boat of Garten and Broomhill. Why not make your trip extra special with one of our dining on board options: Light Lunch offers soup, sandwiches, tea and coffee; Afternoon Tea has some sandwiches, scones with jam and cream followed by some delicious cakes; or enjoy a full three course Sunday Lunch or Dinner. Why not upgrade to First Class to enjoy a meal in one of our compartments, finely decorated in it's own tartan, with vintage British Rail mirrors and luggage racks inside. Split your trip up with a visit to Boat of Garten to explore some fantastic walk trails or bring your bike on board to explore the great cycle routes in the area. See if you can beat the train back from Broomhill on your bike!We are also taking part in the Great Railway Treasure Hunt 2013, so there's plenty for the kids to do on the trip!
Taken from inside the 1938 Stock as we zip along the Uxbridge Branch, our waistcoated driver handles the controls with aplomb! Tube train driving old school!

Note the two ex Motor Rail vans in the consist for added brake force.
Patience.
There's a wee selfie in there. It behoves us all to watch our backgrounds, watch our foregrounds and watch out for distracting reflections. Think I nearly get away with it here :-)

An employee is seen preparing a high-speed train for an evening departure at Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station. Trains on the Shanghai to Hangzhou line travel the 202km distance in just over an hour during which they reach daily speeds of around 300km/h. Locals still say a car is faster, making me wonder just how much they're hauling you-know-what when nobody is looking.
In my two years in China I've only once ever been kicked out of a place for taking photos and this was where it happened. Turns out I had overstepped the white safety line and they were worried I'd fall onto the tracks.
My father spent his lifetime in the railways, and here, in the cab of a retired locomotive, he always looks at home around railway engines. At the Sulphide Street Railway & Historical Museum in Broken Hill, the familiar surroundings turn him back into a boy, wonderment in his eyes and an unbridled passion in his heart.

Another upload from a Timeline Events / London Camera Exchange event I attended a few days ago at the Didcot Railway Centre. In addition to the opportunity to shoot the steam trains and several re-enactors, there were a couple of models and a rather spectacular fire performer.
It was quite a dull day so these shots were right at the limit given I'm using a ten year old D500, i.e. 3200 ISO, f2.8 and a shutter speed of 1/200th at about 160mm (in 35mm terms). I'm not sure everyone will agree but I think the graininess adds to the atmosphere of the image.
Lots more photos to come.....

67022 seen pulling into London Kings Cross with 1Y20 the 0840 Newcastle to London Kings Cross service. (91111 & 82227).
The East Coast mainline was shut between Peterborough and Hitchin resulting in some drags via Cambridge and March.
The choppers are seen on the Dungeness branch working 6M95 with one of only a handfull of low level waste trains that ran. Only a couple of these trains ran as part of the Dungeness A power station decommissioning program. I was told the ‘low level waste’ was literally only things such as used gloves and other very low level stuff.
