2020AUG01. 8.04mi / 863' of elevation. Hiked along the Black River in Chester, NJ today from Cooper Mill to Kay's Cottage and around several abandoned ruins. This is one of my favorite areas to walk around. The first half of the trail traced along the riverbank, over roots and rocks, with moss and a damp earthy smell all along the way. The second half was more of a path cut through heavy foliage and then through open fields before the loop brought you back to the river. Not too much uphill, but the length might make it a bit more strenuous for some. I'll definitely be going back.
The usual: rivers and waterfalls in the spring and mountains and vistas in the fall. Love trail life!

2020JUL03. 6.15mi / 965’ of elevation. Spent part of the holiday weekend at Jenny Jump State Forest walking around the woods. There’s one view of the Delaware Water Gap and Mounts Tammany and Minsi, which was pretty cool. It’s an angle I hadn’t seen them from before. All along the trail there were huge boulders left on top of the mountain by the receding Wisconsin Glacier, 20,000 years ago, which were pretty cool to see. I went up and over Jenny Jump Mountain and down to Ghost Lake, but I didn’t see any ghosts. I tried to find the Faery Cave but was unsuccessful. I did get to the street with probably the coolest name in the State of NJ — Shades of Death Rd. There was no apparent death on it, though, but there was some shade… of death. And I saw a family of swan. So there’s that.
