The last view from a round-trip summit (July 2022) of West Bond, White Mountain National Forest (1,384m) (Zealand, Twinway, Bondcliff Trail, Westbond Spur), where I said goodbye to a dear friend and laid him to rest from the trials of this earth.
Farewell my friend, you're leaving.

Bondcliff is a southern spur of Mt. Bond famous for its incredible cliffs, which drop hundreds of feet from the summit to the valleys below. Surrounded by valleys on three sides and connected to Mt. Bond by a majestic alpine ridge, Bondcliff's view takes in the mountains around the edge of the Pemigewasset Wilderness from the inside. Hikers on its summit are rewarded with the same wonderful sense of isolation that makes Mt. Bond one of the top viewpoints in the White Mountains. Most hikers will tell you that Bondcliff (along with West Bond) is superior to Mt. Bond, because although Bond itself blocks the view to the north, Bondcliff's open summit and spectacular alpine scenery, along with its magnificent view similar to Bond's, are what distinguish it. Getting to this prize is not easy, because although the trail to it is never very steep, it is over nine miles one way. Much of this is on the old railroad grades that the Pemigewasset Wilderness is famous for, and there are many rivers and brooks to see along the way.
So glad the rain was able to hold off for today's trail run. Got to explore this new area and even saw a few deer frolicking in the distance! I tried calling for Bambi, but I guess he didn't hear me! 😁

Evening at Galehead summer 2015. Hiked up midday Sunday from the Gale River Trail to the hut for an overnight, then off down the AT the next morning. Good crew and interesting moments. The 1964 journal book from the hut is a must read, as well as other Appalachia journals within the library. Little moments that one is aware of. Hut team giving a little talk on rescue teams in the Whites, good evening to be aware of life.
I helped a little. I even went and got a scale from Office Depot. It’s right at the limit - 141 grams.

July 4th trek through Knob Mountain, over Jeremy's Run, and up Neighbor Mountain Trail, to AT and Elk Wallow for the 16mile loop.

2020AUG01. 8.04mi / 863' of elevation. Hiked along the Black River in Chester, NJ today from Cooper Mill to Kay's Cottage and around several abandoned ruins. This is one of my favorite areas to walk around. The first half of the trail traced along the riverbank, over roots and rocks, with moss and a damp earthy smell all along the way. The second half was more of a path cut through heavy foliage and then through open fields before the loop brought you back to the river. Not too much uphill, but the length might make it a bit more strenuous for some. I'll definitely be going back.
