Pedestrian crossing outside Blackburn station in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. For some reason the mains power failed, so the flashing orange lights were hooked up to a backup diesel generator.

 

Why bother running a noisy smoke belching diesel generator to keep the lights on, why you could just put take them out of service by putting a bag over them?

My first visit!

The red light is coming from the Puffin crossing's indicator. It's always there but only really visible in the dark.

 

I saw the signs entering town, but didn't know it was happening at that moment!
