Sibsey Trader Windmill is one of the few six-sailed mills remaining in England. The mill was built in 1877 by local millwrights Saundersons of Louth, in a typical Lincolnshire style, to replace a small post mill.

In its day it was the 'Rolls Royce' of windmills, being one of the very last to be built in Lincolnshire. It has been described as "one of the finest mills in the country with its slender tower and elaborate wrought iron balcony".

It is not exceptionally tall, containing only six floors above ground, and the height to the top of the cap is 74 feet 3 inches. The slenderness of the tower, and the flat landscape in which it stands, together create the impression that it is bigger than it actually is, and make the sails, already admittedly large, look enormous.

The mill worked until 1954 (although with only four sails in its later years) following which it was allowed to fall into disrepair. In the 1960’s it was earmarked by the then Ministry of Works as one of twelve windmills of national importance. In the early seventies, it and two other mills on the list were taken into the care of the Department of the Environment (successor to the Ministry of Works) and later that decade the restoration began.

It has now being restored to full working order.

'Traders' - My first major illustration from 'Future Hong Kong' - Showing the bustling and busy city port of 'FHK', with the deadly but beautiful female assassins watching over, guarding the traders. It's also the first image introducing my new model collaboration with the stunning Cindi Li from Hong Kong.

This image is based on shots from a shoot we worked on collaboratively, with a great team from HK - ( Photographer: Untouchable Productions - Ben Siu / Assistant: Zachary Ip, Edward Cheung, Fred Cheung, Hoi Pang Tse / Hair Stylist: George Siu / MUA: Yvonne Au )

The Lisbon Trader, a general cargo ship from Monrovia Liberia, unloads a catamaran from it's deck, yacht in front was unloaded earlier. The ship is moored at Ogden Point docks in Victoria BC Canada. This is a common site here as boats usually made in Asia are delivered to local clients. I think part of the reason this is done is because the boats are probably cheaper to buy offshore. Follow the money...haha!

Backlit images can be very tricky to get a balanced exposure, especially when shooting with no flash. But with careful control of settings, theres always a way around to shoot compelling portraits. Rim lights produced by backlit exposures is truly worth the effort, as seen in the image.
