Ross Miller & Monica Raymond, 1999, University Park, Cambridgeport, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, relief. Photo 7 of 7.

You are entering a realm of trees, water, and reflections. Its subtle beauty and peaceful setting can soothe a tired soul. The trail is easily walked in twenty minutes, but a relaxed pace improves the likelihood of seeing wildlife. Along the way, you may experience the wonderment of discovery. Allow enough time for the magic to work.

Water tupelo and bald cypress trees can live in deep water for long periods. After taking root in summer when the swamp is nearly dry, the seedlings can stay alive in water deep enough to kill other plants. This trail leads through an abandoned river channel. As the channel fills with silt and vegetation, black willow, sycamore, red maple, and other trees will gradually replace the bald cypress and tupelo. Don't hurry. The change will take several hundred years.

Growing in the water are bald cypress and water tupelo. To compensate for shallow roots, their trunks bulge near the bottom. This gives the trees added support in the soft soil. Most of the trees are tupelo. They are identified by oval-shaped leaves and a grayish-colored trunk.

Water tupelo thrives in lowlands and swamps because it can survive with its roots completely submerged under water. The swollen base, called a buttress, helps support the tree.

Another swamp lover, the Bald cypress is easily recognized by its "knees." It was once thought these "knees" were breathing organs, but it is now believed that they merely give additional support to the towering tree.

Bald cypress can live eight hundred years and reach over one hundred feet in height. They have a reddish-brown, deeply ridged trunk and feathery, needle-shaped leaves. The leaves are shed in the winter when the trees "go bald."

I'm not really sure what the sad robot was doing there. Is it Clango?

Sous le Quartier d'Olympiades (XIII), se trouve une ancienne gare de fret. C'est maintenant une zone d’entrepôts de grossistes, mais il reste quelques traces de la gare.

Late March along the Natchez Trace between Mississippi and Tennessee is truly spring. Here the Eastern Redbuds line the road from Natchez to Nashville and beyond. Playing with slow shutter speed while driving can produce some lovely effects. There is that Nikon green again. How to deal with it? A red filter helps a bit as does adjusting hue and WB in LR.

These sinuous ridges in the sediment are trace fossils of a sediment feeder. The complex patterns indicate the sediment was poor in nutrients.

Traces of the freight line which gave access from the Great Eastern Railway to the complex of lines around Ipswich Docks can still be seen crossing Ranelagh Road and the River Gipping close to Ipswich Station.

Although the tracks across Ranelagh Road have been removed the tarmac shows their course very clearly, and traces of the level crossing gates still remain as do the tracks either side and various railway buildings.

Decorators Supply Corporation traces its history back to 1883 when the original founders, Simon Strahn and Richard C. Foster, established a partnership to manufacture "artistic decorative accessories." By 1893, Decorators Supply had blossomed into a manufacturer of cast ornamental plaster that helped to create the moldings that would adorn the buildings and halls showcased in the "White City" at the Columbian Exposition of 1893. Today, Decorators Supply still operates as a family-owned business and maintains the largest repository of molds used to cast period architecture details in two historic materials: wood composition and plaster. From these materials they create historically accurate architectural moldings, ceiling medallions capitals, pilasters, corbels, furniture and woodwork appliques and fireplace mantels.

Five years ago, I uploaded my first photo to Flickr. This site has played a very important role in making me become really interested in photography. I met some of my best friends here, too.

Sadly a chronic lack of leisure (beginning more or less with my diploma thesis last year) has kept me mostly away from Flickr—as well as photography in general—lately. But who knows what the future will bring …

(This photo was taken one year ago while staying with my parents for a few days before Christmas.)

This is a photograph from the first running of the Killyon 5KM Fun Run and Walk which was held at Moran's, Hill-of-Down, Killyon, Enfield, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday 22nd June 2014 at 11:00. The run was organised to raise funds for the Killyon National School Building Fund. This was a very well organised event. The whole Killyon/Hill-of-Down community were out in force helping with every aspect of the race organisation. Race Headquarters was Moran's Pub ("The Hill").

The race started on a local boreen about 1.5KM from the Finish Area. The run then proceeded on a clockwise direction over the Hill-of-Down to Langan's Cross. Taking a right here the run went to the next Canal bridge at Ballasport. The final 1.5KM were run on the beautiful bank of the Royal Canal which brought participants back up to Moran's and the finish line. Interestingly the race crossed the Canal twice and crossed over and under the Dublin Sligo Railway line. Hill-of-Down was once a station on this railway but closed in the 1960s. No trace of the station remains today.

Congratulations to everyone involved in the race and on it's first running this turned out as a brilliant success. The event will hopefully become an annual event.

We have a large set of photographs from today's race. They are available on our Flickr account at www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157644887755947/

This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.

ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

Don't like your photograph here?

That's OK! We understand!

If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.

I want to tell people about these great photographs!
