I've taken a lot of self-portraits over the years. Anytime I want to test out a new product, to see what it can do, I usually use myself as the test subject.
This self-portrait is no different. However, the products being put through the ringer actually made the self-portrait significantly easier to create.
The two products? DSLR Controller and the TP-LINK TL-MR3040 3G/4G Wireless N150 Battery Powered Portable Router.
Several months ago I purchased the TP-Link portable router with the intent of converting it into a CamRanger clone. Unfortunately, that proved more than a little difficult.
However, I recently found out that you can load a custom firmware onto the TP-Link portable router to make it compatible with DSLR Controller (software that I already owned).
The combination allows me to see the camera's live view video stream, adjust exposure values, change focus points, and trip the shutter all from my Google Nexus 7 tablet. It's utterly brilliant!
Now I can compose the shot with the perfect framing, adjust the focus points for proper focus, trigger the camera and even see the resulting image without ever moving from my spot in front of the camera.
It really is a great solution...and exactly what I wanted to do when I bought the TP-Link portable router in the first place.
strobist: 1 Canon 580EX, camera right, diffused by a gridded 24" Lastolite Ezybox. 1 Canon 580EX, camera left slightly behind subject, flagged (to prevent light on the background), used to create rim/back light. 1 580EX, slightly camera left (in front of subject), bounced off a large white reflector to add a touch of fill light to the image. Flashes triggered via PocketWizard PlusX transceivers and an optical slave.

El monestir de Sant Pere de Rodes fou una abadia benedictina de l'antic comtat d'Empúries, dins els límits del bisbat de Girona, situada a l'actual terme municipal del Port de la Selva (Alt Empordà).
Es desconeix el veritable origen del monestir, que va ser motiu d'especulacions i llegendes en el passat, com ara la de la seva fundació per monjos que desembarcaren a la zona amb les restes de sant Pere i altres sants, amb la comesa de custodiar-les per no ser profanades per les hordes bàrbares que amenaçaven d'atacar Roma. Passat el perill, el papa Bonifaci IV hauria ordenat construir el temple.
La primera documentació de l'existència del monestir data de l'any 878, en què és esmentat com a un simple cel·la monàstica consagrada a sant Pere. No és fins a l'any 945 que és considerat un monestir benedictí independent, regit per un abat. Lligat al comtat d'Empúries, va arribar al seu màxim esplendor entre els segles XI i XII.

Celebre per le terme e l'omonima marca di acqua minerale, ma notevole soprattutto per la bellezza del centro storico, ben conservato e caratterizzato da morfologia e aspetto tipicamente medievali. Il centro abitato di San Gemini sorge sui resti di un piccolo insediamento di epoca romana, lungo il tracciato dell'antica via Flaminia.
Al patrono cittadino è dedicato il duomo di San Gemine, risalente al XII secolo e ricostruita nel 1817, nella cui sacrestia si riporta che fossero state rinvenute nel 1775 le reliquie del santo: nella sacrestia si conservano l'urna e la lapide originarie, mentre le reliquie sono seppellite sotto l'altar maggiore.
I notevoli resti di un altro centro abitato romano, Carsulae, si trovano a circa 4 km di distanza, in direzione nord.
Tra i principali edifici di interesse storico-artistico si segnalano:
la chiesa di S. Nicolò, collocata a ridosso del centro storico, la quale costituisce uno dei più significativi esempi di architettura romanica umbra;
la medievale chiesa di S. Francesco, che si trova nella piazza principale, subito al di fuori della cinta muraria medievale, ma all'interno di quella settecentesca, caratterizzata da copertura a spiovente sostenuta da arcate in muratura con arco a sesto acuto (una caratteristica tipicamente umbra) e contenente affreschi quattrocenteschi di scuola umbra;
la settecentesca Porta Romana;
la medievale chiesa di S. Giovanni, derivata da un battistero a pianta centrale.
Heading east to Cincinnati we encountered the KB&S short line along with the TP&W. As we were driving we saw a train with two ex ICE/DME units on the main. We grabbed some shots of it but when I looked to the east I saw a dim on the Horizon so we kept going until we ran into this guy east of Sheridian Ind. He was stopped at old long abandoned Depot! the crew ran over to the other train to move it off the main! we went to get lunch but headed back to see him back on the original heading West with grain so we ran downtown Sheridian and shot him crossing the KBS mainline!
