I recently went on a big hike across the Japanese Northern Alps. I had been looking forward to it for weeks before going.
My friend, Chad and I were going to walk from Tateyama in Toyama to Kamikochi in Nagano. The walk is around 70 kilometers, would take 6 days to complete and would cross some of the most breathtaking scenery in Japan (or so we thought). Upon arrival at Murodo (the start of our hike) we were greeted by torrential rain and a thunderstorm. Hmmmm, good start. Being quite the optimist I thought that the weather would improve significantly over the week. Oh! how wrong I was. The next day (first day of the hike) started hopefully with partly cloudy skies, however as the day progressed, it grew more and more cloudy. From around 8am, the clouds had moved in and would stay there for almost all the day. I was lucky enough to snap this Panoramic shot late in the day just as the clouds decided to give us a glimpse of what was on show. Unfortunately the next 5 days were filled with rain and fog. We were also "lucky" enough to experience a Typhoon in the mountains the day after this photo was taken. My camera hardly came out after taking this shot. Oh well. You win some, you lose some. The mountains will still be there next time. I just hope the weather plays ball. Big thanks to Chad for keeping me company on this rather rain soaked journey.
This shot is made up of 14 shots and merged in Photoshop. You can just about see the summit of Tateyama in the background.
