Toyama Castle was originally built in 1543. Following the death of Oda Nubunaga at Honno-ji in Kyoto, Hideyoshi attacked the castle which was under the rule of an Oda retainer, Sassa Narimasa. It was later rebuilt by the Maeda clan and again destroyed 1870. The modern castle and park was rebuilt in 1954.

This was a taxi driver in Toyama. He took me around Toyama for just over an hour, for the equivalent of about £17, stopping to let me take photos - he even found me an observation tower to get some aerial views - and wouldn't take a tip at the end of it. (Taxi drivers in England would never have refused the tip!) I hope he sees this picture even though it is a bit dark
A short trip to Toyama prefecture enabled me to enjoy some of their very best spring festivals and the slow life of the Japanese country side.
