Fall foliage has lasted into Spring here in the Wasatch mountains of Utah, seen here reflected in the lower Bell's Canyon reservoir on Good Friday, 2018.
This image is flipped from the original and as soon as I had done that it reminded me of lit torches and heat distortion above an open flame.
RAW file edited in View-NXi, additional adjustments (high pass sharpening, local tone mapping, vibrancy) added in Corel Paintshop Pro.
Antorcha de la Amistad (Spanish for "The Torch of Friendship") is a monumental abstract sculpture by Mexican sculptor Sebastián, installed in Downtown San Antonio, in the U.S. state of Texas. The work was commissioned by a group of Mexican businessmen living in the United States and friends of Mexico, and presented as a gift from the Mexican government to the City of San Antonio in 2002. It was unveiled on June 27, 2002, by the artist, Mayor Edward D. Garza, and then–Secretary of Foreign Affairs for Mexico and political analyst Jorge Castañeda Gutman

- Kniphofia uvaria 'Traffic Lights'
- Kniphofia, also called tritoma, red hot poker, torch lily, or poker plant, is native to Africa.
Evergreen species have strap-shaped foliage up to 1.5 m (5 ft) long. All plants produce spikes of upright, brightly coloured flowers well above the foliage, in shades of red, orange and yellow, often bicoloured.
The flowers produce copious nectar while blooming and are attractive to bees. In the New World they may attract sap-suckers such as hummingbirds and New World orioles.
Kniphofia uvaria originates from the Cape Province of South Africa, and has been introduced into many parts of the world as a garden plant. It is hardy in zones 5-10.
One of the objectives of our roadtrip was to visit the migrant schools in the town of Mae Sot on the border with Myanmar. My daughter had gathered together a heap of donated clothes, toys and bric a brac as well as raising money from within our own school community to help the Burmese teachers who work at the schools teaching migrant workers' children. The teachers and families live in often desperate conditions and their lives are incredibly difficult.
This man is the headmaster at one of the rural schools. Recently the entire school had to move because the original landlord didn't want them any more. Him and his wife have had to rebuild the school themselves as they are not allowed to use any of the teachers or parents to help out because of employment law (jobs like this must be done by Thais). Given that there is no electricity here the gift of a torch was greeted with the hugest of smiles.
In all the pictures from Maesot I have deliberately withheld names and locations to protect those depicted.
This origami torch is basically the same model as Ice Cream (flic.kr/p/2iWkQgZ), just with different colors and shaping.

My Mom is not a big fan of my art work because she can't hang it on her walls. : )
So I've decided to branch out a bit and do some flower/foliage/cats photography as well. I want to stay true to my own style - even if it is with different subjects.
I saw these beautiful rolled flowers with strong leaves and it reminded me a torches. So that is the theme I went with.
Let me know what you think!
Also - add any tags you think should apply.
Teleidoscope 35/52 Foreign. I picked this for the theme because this is soooooo foreign to what I normally do! I haven't done anything like this - ever.

When they drag CWR over a road, a break in the rail is required to allow vehicles to access the crossing. This means only one thing, torch. The rail is cut and then hooked to a railroad tie via chain so it can resume being dragged from the flatcars.

"The Torch of Liberty"
Hello Flickr friends! Sergio Vicent here, I hope you are all well. Today I want to share with you a new version that has me quite excited.
In this image I wanted to give a different and dramatic perspective of the Statue of Liberty. I took the photo from an unconventional angle, focusing solely on the torch, a symbol of the message it represents: freedom and enlightenment. This black and white framing highlights the texture details and shadows of the statue, giving it an imposing and timeless atmosphere.
The final touch was the addition of that smoke effect in Photoshop, which simulates a subtle movement that seems to emanate from the torch, as if the light were alive, burning with energy in the darkness of the sky. I like how this detail adds dynamism to the image and emphasizes the symbolic power of the torch.
I have a special affection for this photo because I took it without any planning, and you already know that spontaneous is often the best. In fact, I've already uploaded it several times to Flickr with different finishes, but this version is one of my favorites!
I hope you like this version, I'd love to hear your opinion!
