This year, more than 3,000 officers cover some 750 miles in the garden state, joined by Special Olympics athletes, families, and students, helping to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics New Jersey.

The Torch and Flame - Revered by millions as the symbol both of the nation and the Statue itself, Liberty's flame has changed three times since her 1886 dedication - the last time in 1916. Corroded beyond repair, the torch and flame you see before you were removed in 1984. The flame Liberty now holds follows sculptor Auguste Bartholdi's design as modified in Paris before the Statue's completion. It is a gilded, closed copper shell lit from outside.
