Torch run with fireworks at Alta ski resort, New Years Eve 2006. Volunteers get to ski down the cat track with red road flares, and they light fireworks.

This was originally a hand drawing by a buddy of mine. He made it a few years back while on acid. I had a dream about it recently and decided to work it up in Bryce 3D and Photoshop. Hope you enjoy!!!

Ian's nomination story

Although physically handicapped from an early age, Ian has never let this prevent him from pursuing his ambitions as a long distance runner. In order to compete in all the marathons that he has, he has to continue training even though he knows that he is likely to trip and fall many times. Alongside this, he works hard for his local running club and helps encourage the younger runners in their training as well as marshalling for local and national events. At work he is the epitome of selfless support, willing to help others for the benefit of the business whatever the personal cost - from staying late to making the multi bus journey into work at weekends to help resolve urgent issues. As a keen athlete, I know that Ian would also fully appreciate the honour of being the Olympic torchbearer.

The torch makes its way toward the 2012 Games, courtesy of some very proud bearers.

I tried to write "Day 13" with an LED torch over a 30 second exposure in a dark room, it worked but was lacking a bit.

Tied another torch to the bottom of the other one and, after doing my best Bruce Lee battlecry, started whirling them around like a set of nunchucks whilst repeating over and over "don't break, please don't break".

I just like the way the torch's light gives a glow to this image. (or adds to one already there, really -- the glass shop often has a certain glow to it.)

I had to stand in the shade of the portch post to block the movie light shining in my face. The lights were supposed to represent the rising sun. The soldier on the left is holding a torch while David Herold sits with his hands tied and a Union officer stands against the post at right. This photo taken between movie takes as we were filming the death scene for Booth on the portch of the house. Booth's death was one of the first scenes we filmed (just after sunset) even though in the true sequence of events it came after all the others. The idea was, that while all the rest of the scenes we would be filming were supposed to take place in the middle of the night, this one was supposed to take place just at dawn.

one night a year is Levanger center turned back to ancient times. It is the "Torch Night". The city will be dark, thousands of people gathered at Market Square where the torchlight procession starts. Along the route appear different tableaux.

My mini London 2012 Olympic Torch.

Nice little present to keep in my son's keepsake box for when he's older to show he was there :)

Paul suggested that I try a propane torch and a candle.

I am assuming that this is because the candle would have a soot filled flame vs the cleaner propane flame.

Since carbon black (soot) is so good at emitting IR light (reciprocity baby!) the candle flame should be brighter.

I did not see this effect, but the flames looked neat so here goes. No extra points for guessing which one is the torch.

I'll keep an eye out for that hydrogen torch Paul :-)

Cheers.

Now we know why our relay team has a few problems with the baton!.

Back in 2001 the torch happened to pass through York, Maine where Sonya's parents were living at the time. So we ended up following it for a bit.

My boy and I went for Naked Chocolate Cake and D'effinua Cheesecake tonight. After, we walked up Del Mar for a lesson in Street Art SC style. Mostly stickers and a few stencils. Saw one massive wheatpaste but it had been partially removed and was pretty much indistinguishable. Bummer.

Go-torch characters, Chissai Ossan, Sanasenabona, Koakkuma and Akkuma, participated in J-POP SUMMIT 2015! People enjoyed taking photos with them and seeing them on stage!

Although most of the time the torch with the Olympic Flame is still carried by runners, it has been transported in many different ways. The fire travelled by boat in 1948 to cross the English Channel and was carried by rowers in Canberra as well as by dragon boat in Hong Kong in 2008, and it was first transported by airplane in 1952, when the fire travelled to Helsinki. In 1956, all carriers in the torch relay to Stockholm, where the equestrian events were held instead of in Melbourne, travelled on horseback
