The Torc Waterfall is one of the main attractions In Killarney National Park but this is a not so usual views of Torc. It is a bridge under the very popular Ring of Kerry and while not as spectacular as the waterfall I love the idyllic view.

While exploring the ring of Kerry in Irelands south we had been told by the locals about Torc Waterfall, being a lover of waterfalls, I had to check it out. This is what I captured. The difficult part was waiting for the overhead sun to slightly dip behind the clouds as not to burn out the image.

An extremely cool scene for many reasons, namely the ancient Toledo Ore Dock yard that will take any history buff for a short ride, and of course the TORC YN3 EMD's. Unfortunately, the TORC 999 is the last straight SD40 left on the CSX roster (albeit in TORC reporting marks), with the 4617's passing. TORC 999 is the former L&N 1256 built in 1971.

Getting my feet wet at Troc Waterfall in Kerry during Summer

Im doing a blurb book on the south west of Ireland Dingle Iveragh and Beara peninsulas at the moment and the deadline for ordering the book was coming up. I have Dingle and Beara pretty well covered but I needed to get a few shots of Killarney and the ring of Kerry to finish the Iveragh part. I have wanted to get up here for a few years now after reading in a hillwalking magazine that this was one of the top 10 vies in Ireland. I was finished work early Saturday afternoon so I decide to head for here. it was a fair aul hike to get to the summit but I must say I was pretty damn impressed. Stunning 360 degree views. This was by far my favourite view though looking towards Molls Gap. The day was mostly sunny but overcast in parts with some nice cloud cover and showers. Perfect weather for good light. I think I have rediscovered my love for Killarney, the secret is to ditch the crowds and clichés and head up to the mountains. Made it back home around midnight and up early again to head for Sneem for a short break, found a great new location of an amazing castle ruins near Cahirciveen, wrecked now but happy I got a few more shots for the book.

A beautiful place, you gotta check this place out!

Aside: I have been 'officialised' as the Photographer of the Botany Department, whoohoo, for no extra funds :( so tonight we have yet another wine reception (the joys) so it's my weakest area - PEOPLE!!! Arhhh, portraits and me just don't mix, I wonder how I'll get on! Practice practice practice I guess...
