Wood Storks ~ #84 in Explore 5/3/15
It was my first time seeing the new Wood Stork chicks since they were born and I was pleasantly surprised to see them healthy and thriving... 1 month old-South Florida-Palm Beach County-Florida Wetlands U.S.A.

The wood stork is a large American wading bird in the stork family. It appears all white on the ground, with blackish-gray legs and pink feet. In flight, the trailing edge of the wings is black. The head is dark brown with a bald, black face, and the thick down-curved bill is dusky yellow. Juvenile birds are a duller version of the adult, generally browner on the neck, and with a paler bill. The bare head and the long bill, which can measure up to ten inches in length, render the wood stork distinctive from other large waders in its range.
My wife and I have wanted to go to Patagonia for a while now and finally got the chance to earlier this month. It's always hard to pick favorites (I have a hard enough time picking top 5), but I *think* this is my favorite shot of the year. Such an incredible place!

The trains were busy. As I was getting to this location, 2 eastbounds went trough and when I pulled up to get set up I figured I would only get a sunset shot. Been there done that but I wanted the shot anyway. A train would be nice but I wasn't going to count on that at this point. But, when I walked onto the tracks and checked, I could see the distant train which eventually became the train in my shot above.
I just kept snapping as it approached and lo and behold the sun aligned and the train got close enough to be prominent in the scene and it all came together perfectly! I got the shot :-)
The next shot is the landscape crop of the one above.
It was a very short freight train, about 10 cars, so after it passed through I checked again and could see yet another eastbound in the distance. You can see the headlights in the bottom 2 shots and the sun setting quickly to the right.
Death Valley National Park
As well as being the title of a curious film by Antonioni (1969), Zabriskie Point is an elevated overlook of a colourful, undulating landscape of gullies and mud hills at the edge of the Funeral Mountains, a few miles from Death Valley - from the viewpoint, the flat salt plains on the valley floor are visible in the distance. In the past it was possible to drive right to the edge of the overlook, and several minutes of the film was set there, but since then a new larger car-park has been constructed lower down and visitors now have a short walk uphill. Most people do little more than briefly admire the scenery, which is best at sunrise, but it is possible to climb some of the adjacent hills to get a better overall view, or wander down amongst the variegated dunes. A foot-path leads through the mounds, down a ravine and into Gower Gulch after 2 miles, while another branch veers right into Golden Canyon.
This picture was taken on the Tokyo Metro.
I saw this girl with purple hair, and I was going to take a picture of her, but she disappeared. Then, I saw her again when I looked out the door of the train, leaning against a pillar and engaging in perhaps the number one pastime in Tokyo: messing with her cell phone.
The businessman in front of me was, too. and I managed to snap this picture an instant before the door closed and we were whisked away to the next stop.
This is a shot from my archives that I just had to bring to the front of the heap. Its one of my favorite winter train shots. The weather conditions were just so and resulted in a really cool capture.
I learned a whole lot about this train today. I never could remember where I shot this scene and Duane informed me that it was at Merideth Road about 40 minutes west of where I live. I had a hard time believing I shot this from that location because its a busy road and I wouldnt normally pull over for a photo, no matter what, but apparently, I did. We went out to this very location tonight and confirmed it, right down to that little fenceline in the foreground. Now I can give this spot a place on the map, which I have done.
About a week ago, we were sitting at a train crossing and this train went through and he told me it was a produce express train and later sent me a link to a video all about it (the link is below). I was fascinated by this train and how much is put into operating it. What a job!! I decided I needed to get a shot of one of these some day.
But guess what??? The train in this photo IS the produce express!!

I got my shot and didnt even realize it. This was taken December 18 last year.
This cross-country produce express operated for Railex LLC by Union Pacific Railroad and CSX Transportation Inc. is a 55-car train that hauls produce weekly from Oregon to New York and is designed to replace 200 trucks. There are actually 4 of these produce express trains and dont all come from Oregon. One is from California, one from Utah, I think....lol....and maybe 2 are from Oregon. I didnt take notes when I watched the video :-)

Despues de fotografiarle en Pitis junto a Phantom y de propina llevarnos la 319 de Tecsa que subia a Miranda de Ebro. Luismi y yo salimos con el coche para tierras de Castilla Leon (Agradecerle el apoyo logistico desde aqui y por el buen dia que pasamos a pesar de la incertidumbre).
En Medina del Campo coincidimos con javitxutxu, fccarreño, KIN-446 y tiramos todos a Pozaldez para ver de nuevo la Tecsa, cosa que no sucedio ya que la pararon en Medina del Campo, pero bueno eso nos hizo ir al ramal de Olmedo a ver a los 730.
Se acercaba el momento de adentrarnos en el "Directo de Zamora". Para ello decidimos quemar el primer cartucho en Villaverde de Medina junto alcoworld y los ya mencionados, para luego jugarnosla e ir a Santa Eufemia del Barco al mitico y grandioso viaducto Martin Gil y de paso conocer a Meijo .
En la foto vemos a la 333.407 con el R12-12955 junto al "Tren de la Fresa" y la 319.308 pasando sobre el embalse de Ricobayo y del rio Esla de camino a Galicia.
Esta mal que lo diga pero en estos 7 años quizas esta foto este en mi top5. En resumen... Un buen dia y un saludo para todos los aficionados de ayer. Santa Eufemia del Barco 03/05/13.
I'll be leaving for a week to travel the south of Mexico, but first I wanted to post this remake of an old picture. I liked a lot, but didn't got any attention before. I just crop it a little and the usual saturation and contrast. The girls are Huichol indians.
Jejeje, me parecio muy curioso el momento, coloridas huicholes jugando basketball descalzas. Fue tomada con la camara de mi mamá en una visita que hicimos al pueblo de donde proviene mi familia. La foto es en otro pueblo, que esta metido en la sierra.
A 23 kms al poniente de Cd. Valles por la carretera 70 en Santa Anita se toma una desviacion al sur, despues de 18 kilometros de terraceria decente si no esta lloviendo, llegas a el Ejido la Morena o Tanchachin. Pagas 450 pesos por lancha y subes remando contracorriente 6 o 7 kilometros. Esta cascada, formada por la caida del Rio Gallinas sobre el Tampaón, tiene 102 metros de altura si mal no recuerdo.
Hay fechas en las que no se puede ir porque lleva mucha agua, lo mejor según Mexico desconocido es de Noviembre a Marzo. La ultima lancha sube a las 3 y media.
La publicidad en el entronque dice que es la Joya Maxima de la Huasteca Potosina, creo que es una afirmacion muy ambiciosa, el Puente de Dios en Tamasopo, Xilitla y el buceo en Media Luna tambien podrian serlo.

Actualizacion 09.June.13: Regrese a la cascada y vi que habia cambiado, no solo tenia menos agua que en la foto, pero las paredes se veian muchisimo mas blancas.. ahora entiendo que en la foto estaban de ese color porque acababa de llover

從網路上查資料、比價、詢問 一路到 用珍貴的存款買了鏡頭、機身等這些枯燥煩人又緊張的過程，玩 Contax 至今不到2個月，買2手的，沒有說明書，所以我也得從頭開始自己摸索跟測試。從一開始的霧煞煞到現在稍微順手一點點，雖然它真的很重，常揹得我很吃力且手腕極度酸痛!
但回顧我不管走到哪都揹到哪的毅力，如今獲得這小小的肯定

Deep in the heart of the California desert lies one of the natural world's most puzzling mysteries: the moving rocks of Death Valley. These are not ordinary moving rocks that tumble down mountainsides in avalanches, are carried along riverbeds by flowing water, or are tossed aside by animals. These rocks, some as heavy as 700 pounds, are inexplicably transported across a virtually flat desert plain, leaving erratic trails in the hard mud behind them, some hundreds of yards long. They move by some mysterious force, and in the nine decades since we have known about them, no one has ever seen them move.
