The tool is the production version of the original nipple-snugger, which was made here in Walnut Creek by a guy named Eric Parker for his brother Tim...out of a Campy pedal spindle.

Building on the five-year vision of Addressing Europe’s Unfinished Business, Tools For Changemakers strengthens its training component while embarking on a three-year journey of exploration of the link between personal and collective identities in Europe, the rise of populism and nationalism in different European regions, the need to belong for old and new community members, unaddressed collective traumas, and the urgency to work with these issues in order to build more trust and cohesion in Europe.

Here's a sight for sore eyes.

This is the lest Stanley hand pane I have ever owned. It's a low knob no 4, and according to Patrick Leach's type study here...

www.hyperkitten.com/tools/stanley_bench_plane/type_study....

... this one would be a Type 9 as in 1902-1907.

I know people in America have these planes for breakfast. But where i live this is a first and I'd be surprised to find another one in the next five to ten lifetimes.

This one ain't entirely original or unharmed. The cutter is a SW era cutter, but hey, I ain't fretting. The rear handle has cracked and repaired so and so, but it has held together for what seems like half it's age. The front knob has seen damage and a big chip is missing at the base.

The lever cap has probably been used as a screwdriver a few times too many.

But, still. My first low knob Stanley. I feel like I just lost my virginity.

The plane also displays one sign of oddity in therms of placing it dead center in a specific type era.

The Type 9 planes do have the two patent dates cast into the bed. It also has Bailey at the toe. It has the lateral ridge in the base that meets the frog. But the lateral adjuster lever on this Type ought to be void of any patent dates. But nope, this one has the same patent date stamped onto the lever as in the previous Type 8.

Did I just discover another unknown Type? Nope, don't really think so. I guess some of the old Type levers were used in a late type.

This plane has a very gracious feel about it. I haven't fettled a lot, just given it a moderate cleaning and polishing. The cutter is resharpened and it has been taken for short test run on a piece of no brainer Finnish pine.

I do like the feedback. The depth adjusting nut rotates with relative ease despite the smaller size. The lateral adjuster with it's rotating disk is really nice and of course the support of a proper frog does it's own kind of magic. So yes, thumbs up by all means. I think this one's a keeper.

Bought out of a fifty cent capsule toy vending machine in the lobby of a Burlington Coat Factory. I was trying really hard to get the hacksaw, but I failed. You can't even see the hacksaw on this promo sheet (www.eastcoastvendingsupply.com/item--Tool-Time--tool_time...), but it looked cool. The scale varies wildly on these, but I think the saw is close to 1:6. It might be fun to use some of these in a workshop diorama, but at least one is going on my keychain.

The School begins classes once each year, early in October. Students are divided into sections of 12 students each, and get two hours of classroom instruction and six hours of shop instruction per day, Monday through Friday 8am - 5pm.

Basic Boatbuilding is the focus of the first semester, which runs from early October to late December.

The instructors assume that most, if not all, students have no woodworking skills and proceed from that assumption. The skills taught in the first semester are those essential to boatbuilding, and the course, for that reason, is very "hands-on".

Students learn to sharpen and use all their tools, and participate in a wide range of individual skill-building exercises, from learning to make the joints commonly used in boatbuilding to a series of tools. Students learn to draft and make a half-model. Then, working in pairs, they learn to loft a boat full-size on the floor. Finally, working, together as a team, the semester culminates in December as students work together to build a flat-bottomed skiff.

This is a student's shoulder box, or tool chest.

The Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding is located in Port Hadlock WA and is a private, accredited non-profit vocational school.

Our mission is to teach and preserve the skills and crafts of fine wooden boatbuilding and other traditional maritime crafts.
