Male Hackberry Emperor butterfly guarding the trail.

Considered uncommon. Frequently found in close proximity to Hackberry trees.

-----------------

"Rarely visits flowers, but feeds on rotting fruit, dung, and tree sap. Males are strongly attracted to human perspiration and will hitch a ride for a long distance while its food source walks down the trail. Females are less often seen..."

für den Reiher und für mich :-)

heute gab es wieder Hecht

Foggy morning in the woods, shooting some trees that had lost virtually all of their leaves.

Summer temperatures and lack of water this year took its toll on some flowers, I came across this Tiger Lily just after a quick downpour, definitely made for a fantastic photo opportunity-HMM

"The Pont de Normandie (English: Normandy Bridge) is a cable-stayed road bridge that spans the river Seine linking Le Havre to Honfleur in Normandy, northern France. Its total length is 2,143.21 metres (7,032 ft) – 856 metres (2,808 ft) between the two piers. It is also the last bridge to cross the Seine before it empties into the ocean. Despite being a motorway toll bridge, there is a footpath as well as a narrow cycle lane in each direction allowing pedestrians and cyclists to cross the bridge free of charge.

Construction

The bridge was designed by Michel Virlogeux, the general studies have been led by Bernard Raspaud from Bouygues, and the works management was shared between G. Barlet and P. Jacquet. The architects were François Doyelle and Charles Lavigne. Construction [...] began in 1988 and lasted seven years. The bridge opened on 20 January 1995.

At that time it was both the longest cable-stayed bridge in the world, and also had a record distance between piers for a cable-stayed bridge. It was more than 250 metres (820 ft) longer between piers than the previous record. This record was lost in 1999 to the Tatara Bridge in Japan. Its record for length for a cable-stayed bridge was lost in 2004 to the 2883 metres of the Rio-Antirrio. [...]"

Penmaenpool grade 2 listed toll bridge is a wooden toll bridge built in 1879 to replace a ferry crossing. It links the A493 running along the south bank of the Mawddach to the A496 running along the north. It is Cadw-registered and was Grade II listed in 1990.[1][2] The bridge can only be used by vehicles under 2.5 tonnes,[3] and around 200 crossings are made each day.[4]

The George III Inn was originally two buildings: a ship chandler serving the boatbuilding industry, and a pub. It dates from approximately 1650. Gerard Manley Hopkins reputedly wrote the poem entitled "Penmaen Pool" in the visitor's book.

Penmaenpool railway station was on the Aberystwith and Welsh Coast Railway. It opened as Penmaen Pool on 3 July 1865, and closed to goods on 4 May 1964 and passengers on 18 January 1965. The route is now part of the Mawddach Trail and is popular with walkers.

The Plattsmouth Bridge is a truss bridge over the Missouri River connecting Cass County, Nebraska and Mills County, Iowa. Until 2014, it carried U.S. Highway 34 across the river .The bridge was built in 1929, replacing a ferry that previously operated at the site. In 2014, Highway 34 was rerouted to a new four-lane bridge farther upstream. But this old toll bridge is still in use for a toll.

*Alpsee and two castles*

Looking back at an autumn hike around the Alpsee in Ostallgäu/Bavaria/Germany.

At the southwest end of the lake you have a great view of the two royal castles Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein.

Rückblick auf eine Herbstwanderung um den Alpsee im Ostallgäu.

Am südwestlichen Ende des Sees hat man einen tollen Blick auf die zwei Königsschlösser Hohenschwangau und Neuschwanstein.

I originally envisioned having some of the cool angled railing in focus but it proved difficult with my still limited knowledge of tilt. The blur worked out nicely though I thought.

All comments, critiques and feedback both positive and negative welcome.

Aldwark Toll Bridge is situated on the River Ure, near to the confluence of the Nidd (and thus forming the Ouse). It is one of only a few privately owned bridges in the country The toll for a car is now 40p saving a 25 mile journey

In 1772, John Thompson was given the powers by an Act of Parliament to build a bridge over the Ure at this point, owing to the dangerous river conditions in the area. Oddly, in the 19th Century, the bridge was hit by an iceberg and was rebuilt - this is the bridge that is currently standing

Although the bridge itself is made of iron, the deck is made of specially imported hardwood, and can be a bit disconcerting crossing in a large van! The weight limit is currently set at 7.5 tonnes, which is testament to the original builders, who only envisioned horse and carts crossing it. (Sabre)

For Baz who holds me in his heart tonight and every night in the magic of the dark moonlight

Heute morgen war ich auf einer geführten Tour die es in sich hatte. Mein toller Arbeitskollege lud mich ein: Komm doch mal vorbei! Dieser Blick war zum dahinschmelzen. Sowas schönes. Indian Sommer? No schwäbien summer!

A preserved toll booth from the 1930s once serving the Queensway Tunnel. They still look rather good! Situated at Mann Island by the Mersey Tunnel Offices and Ventilation Tower. I recall these and the rather magnificent tickets issued.

Wooden bridge built in 1879, and at £1 a trip, worth it for a bit of a shortcut and just because you can!
