The only nudibranch I photographed today (that other slug technically isn't a nudibranch). Found several, actually, without looking too hard, but conditions weren't great for photographing things under the water.

First, it was very windy, making for crazy distortion when shooting down through the surface of the pool. Second, the water was very murky, which I sort of expected; Scott Creek is the drainage for the area that burned in the Lockheed fire, and with the serious amount of rain we got last week, all that freshly burned hillside was making its way into the ocean.

Usually I clean up my photos when there is a lot of junk in the water, but I decided to leave it this time...

Mutta kuka ihme keksi hiihtoloman? Wikipedia tietää neuvoa, että kouvolalainen voimistelunopettaja Santeri Hirvonen ehdotti Kasvatus ja koulu -lehdessä vuonna 1926 koululaisille sisätiloissa työskentelyn vastapainoksi viikon mittaista hiihtolomaa. Hän kirjoitti, että keväthangilla hiihtäessään lapset saisivat raitista ilmaa ja kestävyyttä lopun lukuvuoden puurtamiselle. Jee jee jee!

Silloin ajatus ei saanut tuulta alleen, mutta 1930-luvun alussa Lauri Pihkala ryhtyi ajamaan asiaa eteenpäin. Kouluhallitus hyväksyi viimein idean ja vuonna 1933 hiihtoloma otettiin käyttöön kaikissa kouluissa.

Eli hiihtolomien 78-vuotisjuhlan kunniaksi vietän hiihtolomani perinteisesti eli ulkoillen! Mites muut?
