A shot of Dylan and Jackson resting on a couple of toadstools at Minnetrista Center. They both had just finished a project, making honeycomb window decorations. We had such a nice time at the festival!

Toadstools, Brithdir

There was a huge pile of these toadstools in my backyard. I was too late to get them standing in a pile, but they still looked interesting. Within three days they were totally black and withered.

If you were to get a toadstool house what sort of roof would you like, pointy or round?

What is a Toadstool? A toadstool is a formation which has a boulder perched on a rock column, like a mushroom, or "toadstool". It is formed over millions of years when the softer rock under the boulder erodes away, leaving only the rock pedestal supporting a capstone.

These weren't the Toadstools we were hoping to see, after hiking back to them. We were actually looking for the white ones with the red caps. We later found out the approximate location of those, but it was a 9 mile hike. These were located just north of Highway 89 about 20 miles west of Page, Arizona.

Lovely toadstools. I found them in abundance beside my favorite dragonfly pond last week. I've always liked fungus for some reason - although, I don't particularly like eating it! lol

Toadstools and crowns for a very special little girl.

This is a 6 month old photo I just found. This was my daughter's last year's Birthday cake. It was a really rushed job and I was not thrilled with how it turned out but she was happy with it.

A tiny, like 3x2 inch feaux wood grain stretcher frame for these little guys. I don't love satin stitch over long distances so I tried it with a seam up the side. I think it's sorta cute. Seed stitch to fill in the caps and one tiny french knot on the littlest toadstool cap. Great smokey/sage blue 28ct linen i got for a few dollars because it was an end and there wasn't much left. Sometimes it's a good thing I don't make very large work. lol

I read about the toadstool swap at lucykatecrafts.blogspot.com/, but my test toadstool wasn't swap-worthy, so I didn't join.

Stalactites are formed by the deposition of calcium carbonate and other minerals, which is precipitated from mineralized water solutions. Limestone is calcium carbonate rock which is dissolved by water that contains carbon dioxide, forming a calcium bicarbonate solution. The chemical formula for this reaction is:

CaCO3(s) + H2O(l) + CO2(aq) → Ca(HCO3)2(aq)

This solution travels through the rock until it reaches an edge and if this is on the roof of a cave it will drip down. When the solution comes into contact with air the chemical reaction that created it is reversed and particles of calcium carbonate are deposited. The reversed reaction is:

Ca(HCO3)2(aq) → CaCO3(s) + H2O(l) + CO2(aq)
