"Amanita muscaria" Fly Agaric .. found in my local woodland. (mixed broad-leaf woods, quite a few Birch in this area)

Not for Human consumption.

Amanita muscaria? It's HUGE, maybe 8-9" in diameter... it's been "blooming" for a week now. The birds picked at it's cap.

This one is growing under a pine tree in the corner of our yard. I didn't notice anything last year so he must be new. This is the 3 one that has appeared under this tree so far.

After an usually long hot dry summer in Scotland the mosses, lichens and ferns are all springing back into life and now that it is autumn there are bewildering varieties of toadstools popping up throughout the woods.

i got the idea for little toadstools from one of my bento cookbooks, but they used quail eggs for the stalk. :)

I am completely besotted with mushrooms/toadstools/odd fungal formations ... the shape, the delicate coloration, even their earthy smell. And they're delicious too... although I wouldn't eat these... they may be poisonous. I uprooted them from underneath a Douglas Fir in the park.

A couple more views of the toadstool formations and some wildflowers blooming that we saw during our roadtrip last month. I haven't been out and about to take any new photos since our trip because it's so stinkin' hot outside.

Have a great week.........I'll continue to hibernate.

I went for a walk on the Quantock Hills in the rain today - at least in the woods you don't get too wet! The mushrooms and toadstools are out in force at the moment....

These tiny toadstools were growing from between the bark of this tree, they are less than1cm high.

This is the Red Toadstool Hoodoo just a little north of Page, Arizona.

A toadstool is a formation which has a boulder perched on a rock column, like a mushroom. It is formed over millions of years when the softer rock under the boulder erodes away, having only the rock pedestal supporting a capstone.

When I saw these rocks for the 1st time I couldn't help thinking that they look more like the Loch Ness Monster than toadstools. Maybe this is actually a Petrified distant relative of Nessie??!!

Captured at the end of the Toadstools trail on Utah. This is a 1.8 mile trail, supposed to be a easy one, but we visited right after the rain and it was full of the mud. It would be of great fun if taking this with Milky Way.

Saw this bad boy outside of my apartment this past week.

Before winter killed the vegetation I found and photographed these toadstools on our property.
