Toad or frog taken in Devon UK

BY J. PATRICK LEWIS

I was really in a muddle

looking over a mud puddle

'cause I didn't have a paddle

or a twig to ride the reef.

But I said, Oh, fiddle-faddle,

this is just a little piddle

of a second fiddle puddle

so I saddled up a leaf.

I set sail on the puddle,

but I reached the muddy middle

and I rocked the leaf a little,

then I gave it all I had.

And I solved the mighty riddle

of the whole caboodle puddle

when I hopped up on the middle

of a beetle launching pad.

(Okay, maybe not my all-time favourite, but fun to say fast!)

Just made a small pond in the back garden about four weeks ago as we occasionally see the odd Frog and Toad. This little fella has moved in already…

Rather uncommon; for he liked to stay put on my foot

The toads migration has started again. Wetland Passewaaij is a popular place for these protected species. In the spring these Wetlands attracts the toads from their wintering area for water where they can reproduce. Every year, dozens of animals migrate to the Wetland Passewaaij. This is done from dusk until dawn. After the mating season the toads go back to their winter home inside the dikes. The toads migration takes several weeks and depends on the temperature and humidity. Toads are useful animals. By night, they eat their own body weight, on the menu: snails, caterpillars, beetles, aphids and ants. This is one reason why the Common Toad in the Netherlands is legally protected, like all other amphibians. The dikes are closed for traffic during the migration.

Pareidolia - I see a toad. Can you see it?

Crustose lichens are lichens that form a crust which strongly adheres to the substrate (soil, rock, tree bark, etc.), making separation from the substrate impossible without destruction. The basic structure of crustose lichens consists of a cortex layer, an algal layer, and a medulla. The upper cortex layer is differentiated and is usually pigmented. The algal layer lies beneath the cortex. The medulla fastens the lichen to the substrate and is made up of fungal hyphae. The surface of crustose lichens is characterized by branching cracks that periodically close in response to climatic variations such as alternate wetting and drying regimes.

Forest Toad (Ingerophrynus divergens) - Danum Valley, Malaysia

I frequently say I love the jungle because you never know what you'll find and even after months you can still be surprised. I also frequently say I love toads. So what could be better than being surprised by a new species of toad in the jungle after months of night hiking. Not only was it a new species of toad for me but it was also a new genus! Ingerophrynus currently contains 12 species scattered around South East Asia, the species in the photo is Ingerophrynus divergensm, a toad that is relatively widespread in Borneo and patchily distributed in Sumatra. This toad was photographed as found sitting on low vegetation (knee height) which I found slightly unusual for a terrestrial species, not long after seeing this one I found a second individual also sitting on knee height vegetation and those remain the only individuals of this species I have seen. Although widely distributed this is not an abundant species as goes to show by my rare encountering of it and supported by a bit more trustworthy source; info from IUCN.

Grumpy toad is sick of your crap.

It was very difficult to spot this tiny little toad in the dirt on the ground as it is was only about 2cm long and blended in so well with its surroundings.

Thank you for visiting my site and taking the time to leave a comment. Truly appreciated!

This fat little toad had absolutely no fear. I really got this close to him.

There were quite a few baby frogs and toads hopping around Titchwell and some, including this toad were living quite dangerously, hopping across the main path

Neighbor Toad posing for a photo somewhat reluctantly but let me have several shots before hopping away. He was probably hatched in a pond that's in the yard. A toad is actually a frog and no distinction is made in taxonomy although they spend less time in water than frogs do. They eat insects and are good to have in the garden.

My son's girlfriend's toad

Had to help this fella up a steep bank, in return he posed for a photo. Taken with absolutely the wrong lens. I was going to clone out the twig but decided it added a bit of interest.

Many thanks to all who comment, fave or just enjoy looking, very much appreciated folks!

Baby toad I found out in the yard today

Meet our full time garden resident, Toady. A small squat tailless amphibian distributed nearly worldwide. It is similar to a frog, but has dry warty skin and, except for breeding in water, lives mostly on land.

Taken in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.

Toad in the backyard. He has found another place to live, because he is not in my yard this year.

American Toad (Bufo americanus). Vincent Massey Park, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. August 11th, 2015

As I was shooting a spring peeper, I could hear this toad making its way down from the higher ground, heading toward the water. It ended up right next to where I was kneeling, momentarily hindered by a birch log.

A dull overcast with rain today, did spot this baby toad about one inch or just over, very pretty orange colouration ive not seen before

(Spea hammondii) Found road cruising.

Another toad from the canal towpath. This one looks rather worried by the camera that I had plonked down close to it.

Common Toad (Bufo bufo). Photographed in Bradfield Dale, South Yorkshire. OS grid reference SK241908.

As I was laying on the ground photographing this guy, a big fly crawled along the rocks in front of him, and then, bam, it was gone. Lunch.

A little bit of rain and the toads were out in full force tonight. If they liked what they saw today, they'll love tomorrow. We're about to get a heavy dose of it for the next couple of days.

Brown Slender Toad (Ansonia leptopus) - Danum Valley, Malaysia

Borneo is a biodiversity hotspot and among the myriad of species, the diversity of slender toads (Ansonia) is also quite high there with over 10 species. Some of these species are difficult to identify, i had some trouble with this individual but believe it is A. leptopus. These toads are typically found along forest streams, as was the case with this individual.

You can't help some people. This 'un didn't appreciate a helping hand across the road!
