I found this big beast leaping along on the sand.

This Southern Toad probably knows a lot more than we do these days.

(Toad Hall is actually the name of this house that I took a photo of!:-)

After happily posing this little one went on its merry way

With all the rain we’ve been getting this toad needed a respite from the flood. He is on our patio under the light hunting bugs.

This little baby toad was one of many crossing a grassy path..I nearly stepped on them and just saw them in time. I've no idea where they were heading as the pool (opposite direction) was quite a distance away, down a steep hill. Quite a journey for these youngsters, leaving 'home' for the first time, I hope they all made it to their destination and survived, such a perilous journey to undertake - there is safety in numbers, I hope! :)

Enjoy this beautiful sunny Wednesday :)

Found a toad in my garden today. Turned him over and rubbed his belly and he went into a trance. Learned this from a 6 year old camping this summer. Gosh and I'm seventy but still a kid at heart.

Last weekend the sun was out and it was lot warmer which meant there were plenty of toads in the pond.

I met this lovely lady at Benholm Mill in March last year, and I look forward to seeing the toads out again soon this year.

Toad Lily starts to bloom the end of Summer, when I remember I do bring some in the kitchen.

Aujourd'hui j'ai rencontré mon prince charmant, mais je ne l'ai pas embrassé. Mon chien Lewis l'a fait, mais sans résultat

Today I met my Prince charming, but I didn't kiss him. My dog Lewis did, but without any result

Unusual to see such a pale toad out on the peat moors, normally much darker than this little fella.

ホトトギス

Two of our backyard American toads share a rock by the koi pond. It is mating season, and for several days (and nights) the male toads had entertained us with their loud mating calls. Each male has a different vocal pitch and the chorus of several of these toads singing at once was truly joyful. And loud! Their choruses were heard all over the neighborhood, hoping to attract mates from surrounding areas. After about five days of toad song they became quiet again, and the toads are once again hiding, so hopefully mating was successful. Backyard wildlife.

Having posted a few photos from Harvest Mice to the Lake District, I thought I'd come back to my week in the Scottish Highlands photographing Pine Marten.

During the day, following the heavy downpours which were almost daily, lots of frogs and toads would come out.

This one seemed happy to sit still so I thought I'd try getting a shot of him and the fast flowing river behind.

A beautiful Toad I found on Rannoch Moor, near the old Kings House Hotel.

Tricyrtis is a genus of the botanical family Liliaceae (lily family), known in English as Toad Lilies, supposedly because many varieties have purple spotted, orchidlike flowers.

There are 16 different species and about 55 cultivars. Its native range is from the eastern Himalayas to eastern Asia, including China, Japan, Taiwan, and the Philippine Islands.

Toad lilies mainly grows in woods but can also be found in mountainous areas and on cliff sides.

Tricyrtis in general are late summer to late autumn flowering plants whose very exotic starry or bell-shaped flowers (7 to 12 cm) are borne on attractive arching stems, very similar to an orchid and passion flower. These occur in a wide range of forms usually spotted with a contrasting color.

american toad

found in the kitchen at breakfast. agreed to leave peacefully by the front door.

2024 is coming to an end, and I for one am glad to see it in my rearview mirror. One of the bright spots this year was finding this big momma toad hanging out in the basin of our River Birch tree. Growing up only a half a block from where I currently live, I could find toads, frogs, snakes and all of the creepy crawly creatures a boy could use to torment his sisters. When we moved in some twenty plus years ago, not so much.

But it is getting better. During the summer nights, bats are flying overhead and the toads are hoping in front of us during our evening walks. A month ago, Luna stopped dead in her tracks as an owl did a fly by.

I wish everyone a wonderful 2025.

Dozens of them moving about on the reserve last week. Had to watch where you walked in places!

An American Toad sits on a boardwalk beside a broken Bulrush stem. Old Quarry Trail Kanata, Ontario. Friday July 28 2022.

I love Toad Lilies but can only have one in a pot up on the deck because the deer also love them...

This is probably the most beautiful toad I have ever seen. An absolutely gorgeous mix of colour and markings.

Nikon D7200, Sigma 150-600mm Sports lens, 600mm, f/6.3, 1/320, ISO 1100. This toad (or frog) was about 3/4 of an inch in length.

NB: not captive. Seen on garden plant pot gravel.

I believe this bug with lovely markings and texture is genus Platycoris, perhaps bipunctatus. Commonly known as the toad stink bug.

This is a true bug, with piercing and sucking mouthparts.

Body length 10 mm.

We now have quite a few toads around our home, which come out to roam around after dark. My next-door neighbor has a little artificial pond that the toads enjoyed quite a bit last year, so maybe the healthy toad population is booming in part due to that.

Toad - Cleethorpes.

"Toad" was one of my nicknames in grade school, so when I saw this fella sitting by the side of the trail, I figured I was obligated to get down on the ground and get some shots.

Bufo bufo.

A pair on their way to the nearby pond.

I like toads, they tend to be very accommodating subjects....it's just a shame that they often look so damn miserable!!!
