Torre Titanium en Santiago de Chile

This is an old, inactive titanium mine in Wyoming's Laramie Range. The dark-colored rocks were the mining target - these are iron- and titanium-oxide rocks, referred to as nelsonites.

Nelsonites are scarce intrusive igneous rocks. Also known as FTP rocks, in reference to their composition, nelsonites are iron-rich (Fe), titanium-rich (Ti), and phosphorus-rich (P). They are principally composed of dark gray to blackish, metallic-lustered magnetite (Fe3O4) and ilmenite (FeTiO3) (or ilmenomagnetite; titanian magnetite), plus apatite (CaPO4). Minor minerals reported in nelsonites include spinel, olivine, pyrrhotite, and graphite.

These rocks typically occur as Fe-Ti-oxide concentrations in anorthosite complexes. They appear to form as cumulates in cooling batholiths. The occurrence seen here is a lens/nodule or a dike-like intrusive body, apparently formed by remobilized Fe-Ti-oxide cumulates.

The Fe-Ti oxide rocks at this site range from nelsonites to not-quite nelsonites, as the apatite content varies.

Geologic unit: Sybille Fe-Ti Oxide Deposit (Sybille Oxide Deposit), Laramie Anorthosite Complex, early Mesoproterozoic, 1.431 to 1.436 Ga

Locality: Sybille Pit, Sybille Canyon, Laramie Range, southeastern Wyoming, USA

A shower of titanium metal flakes burning rapidly with sparks. The metal was heated just above the picture and allowed to fall onto the floor. Finely titanium burns to form titanium dioxide and nitride, but the bulk metal is normally non-combustible.

Tubus racks are the shop favorite for a strong, stiff, yet lightweight rack. Titanium Tubus racks have been super elusive...until now!

This is the first KGS / Passoni custom bicycle to be imported since KGS Bikes became the exclusive Passoni dealer in the United States. KGS Bikes designs the bicycle around your true position using our proprietary BalancePointâ„¢ system. The result is incredible comforta and efficiency.

Many people have nice bikes and can use most of the parts if they upgrade the frame. We designed the FrameUpâ„¢ concept to allow you to get the basics: frame, fork, headset, seatpost, saddle, stem, spacers, bars and levers. The bike is set up as shown and you can put the rest of the parts on easily or have your LBS do so, since the setup is defined.

Contact info is below and let us know if you have any questions on this or other custom bicycles.
