Sunday morning walk around Austin, TX.

One of the Juan Pelota baristas drew this wonderful tip jar art. She also creates the coffee shop's t-shirts.

On the tip of a new season? It's a bit chilly here today and unfortunately my snow dance didn't work...hope you have a wonderful First Day of Spring.

Maybe Fixed head powered, ex NCB? but in very tidy order -back then of course, this yard did not keep stock for long before stuff was cut up!

1983 Foden and Tipping Trailer spotted on the 14.09.13. There cannot be many of these still in use.

When we were discussing options for this year's autumn hiking adventure, it almost seemed like there was nothing left in northern Scandinavia that we all still wanted to explore. However, after some discussions, we realized that Finnish Lapland might be an interesting and convenient location for our regular autumn outdoor pursuits.

After conducting some research and planning, we narrowed our focus to Finland's northwest, bordering Sweden and Norway. More specifically, we honed in on the Käsivarsi Wilderness Area, which happens to be the second-largest wilderness area in Finland.

-----

Käsivarsi is somewhat atypical for Finland due to its higher elevation (Finland's highest peak, Halti (1,324m), is located in its northern tip), rugged terrain, and limited wooded areas. This combination sounded particularly attractive to us because it meant we would hike across various types of landscapes, both on and off marked trails.

Our itinerary was as follows: Kilpisjärvi/Saana mountain -> Tshahkaljärvi lake -> Siktagurajohka river -> Meekonjärvi lake including trip to Pitsusköngäs waterfall -> Porojärvi lake including ascent of Saivaara cliff -> Guhturgurajávri/Termisjärvi lakes -> Ailakkajärvi lake -> Kilpisjärvi.

Orange Tip - Garden, Hullbridge, Essex.

I was tipped off for just one Belphégor, but walking around the shed there turned out to be another one, accompanied by a GSA, LNA and Axel.

Tip

Using cardboard or flags for hard shadows is an awesome trick.

Make sure you place the object as close as possible to the model otherwise the shadow will not be hard enough.

Time had come recently to move some of my motley collection to a new location nearer to home. Here we see my 1958 Thames Trader 55 tipper just after it had arrived on the farm in Tamahere. It was bar-towed from Hamilton with myself at the wheel.

The Renault 17TS in the tipper body is the donor car for my other 17TS (now also moved to the new storage location).

A new Isuzu bulk tipping lorry operated by Daltons of Matamata, suppliers of potting mixes and other landscaping products. More often than not such a truck would operate with a 4-axle drawbar trailer.

I am not a fan of the recent updating/restyling of the Isuzu cab front, particularly the upper grille area with its six black areas as well as the gap below it which gives the appearance of there being something missing.

Thanks to a tip from a friend in Corning, I was able to salvage my day trip to the eastern portion of the twin tiers by chasing the Lehigh Railway south out of Sayre.

Just the tip of the macro iceberg! I'm going to enjoy using the D300 and the Nikon 105mm macro lens combination!

It's going to take forever to learn the new camera layout though! The buttons are in all the wrong places! What is second nature with the Canon, is completely alien with the Nikon! Mad! All part of the fun of learning something new I suppose! :)

Right, I'm off to visit some photostreams while my battery re-charges!!

Large on black! :)

Hobson's Choice!

Just sorting some negatives and discovered the colour version of our old Foden 8 wheel tipper, [The black and white version was uploaded earlier]

New York City.

Newly hatched from the egg. The head will turn more yellowish green as it grows bigger. This was taken in my Garden in West Yorkshire. I have some Garlic Mustard (Alliaria petiolata) growing, which is a common food plant for Orange-tip larvae. I had seen 4 tiny eggs a few days and today found 4 tiny caterpillars, each no more than 4 or 5 millimetres in length so really tricky to photograph without proper Macro equipment.

Saguaro Cacti (Carnegiea gigantea) flowering abnormally from the sides of their trunks instead of all on the tips, probably a sign of prolonged drought stress; San Pedro River Valley, SE of San Manuel, AZ

Tip:

Question "when using gels, what white balance do I select"

The answer is quite simple.

You shoot the colorchecker passport with normal strobes (so without the gels) now you use this as the setting and add the gels. This way the gels do exactly what they supposed to do.

Of course..... When shooting gels you are in the creative mood and you can change whatever you like.

Added note.

When using CTO gels for color correction you of course shoot with gels on. But this tip is about the creative use.
