I don't know if this is just a grass or some kind of wild wheat or what. but i like it.

This male Orange-tip is feeding from its favoured nectar source the Cuckooflower, Cardamine pratensis.

I kept this doughnut for myself because it matches a favorite jacket. I figured out a different way to hang it...very easy. I may still shorten the bottom loop but it hangs very nice as is, so maybe I'll leave it. I used the soft glass tubing from PolymerClayExpress in the amber color and two bronze-colored loop crimps (what is the proper name of these things?) on each end of a short length of the tubing and hooked both ends to metal ring.

With just days before the William Sinclair Horticulture 2ft gauge rail system closed, Motor Rail Simplex 'Sark' (works No.8825 built in 1943) enters the tipping shed at Bolton Fell Mill, Cumbria, on 20th May 2014.

Don't know why I hadn't tried this before, but the other day I put the mp-e65 on two sets of extension tubes and cackled maniacally as lightning clashed outside. This is the tip of a ballpoint pen, uncropped. You can see the thickness of ink.

Also, if anybody thinks this doesn't belong in poor man's macro let me know. I feel like the group is based more around trying new techniques than about actual investment in photography equipment but if that's not the case I'll remove it.

Not a mouthpiece.

I hate when they tell me what to say. I am not a ventriloquism doll for anybody.

(I know this not the best process but I try it. Any good tips are welcome).

The Orange-tip is a true sign of spring, being one of the first species to emerge that has not overwintered as an adult. The male and female of this species are very different in appearance. The more-conspicuous male has orange tips to the forewings, that give this butterfly its name. These orange tips are absent in the female and the female is often mistaken for one of the other whites, especially the Green-veined White or Small White. This butterfly is found throughout England, Wales and Ireland, but is somewhat-local further north and especially in Scotland. In most regions this butterfly does not form discrete colonies and wanders in every direction as it flies along hedgerows and woodland margins looking for a mate, nectar sources or foodplants. More northerly colonies are more compact and also more restricted in their movements.

Babenhausen 28AUG2019 – Lesser Purple Emperor Butterfly:

This male Apatura ilia form clytie butterfly flew onto my shoe! And as if that were not amazing enough, as it turned, its color changed from 42 shades of ordinary brown to become iridescent blue!

Billions of tiny scales – in 2 types – on the dorsal wing overlap like roof tiles and cover the membrane surface, to the naked eye appearing as dust, producing a brilliant color due to multilayer photonic crystal micro- and nanostructure, transforming a plain brownish hue to a stunning violet-blue, a phenomenon used to attract mates, camouflage, and startle predators: wingtop color changes in the wake of the variation of the incident light angle.

Even though this is the first time I've identified it, the Lesser Purple Emperor butterfly's range, the Palearctic [Palaearctic] (first identified in the 19th century and still used as the basis for zoogeographic classification), is the largest of the eight biogeographic realms on the Earth's surface, stretching across Europe, Asia north of the Himalayan foothills, North Africa, and northern and central parts of the Arabian Peninsula.

Hope you enjoy the 26% of 61 butterfly photos I took this day!

On the tip of a new season? It's a bit chilly here today and unfortunately my snow dance didn't work...hope you have a wonderful First Day of Spring.

Felt rather privileged to stumble across this mating pair while searching for emerging damselflies on my local pond.

Maybe Fixed head powered, ex NCB? but in very tidy order -back then of course, this yard did not keep stock for long before stuff was cut up!

Tip

Using cardboard or flags for hard shadows is an awesome trick.

Make sure you place the object as close as possible to the model otherwise the shadow will not be hard enough.

A new Isuzu bulk tipping lorry operated by Daltons of Matamata, suppliers of potting mixes and other landscaping products. More often than not such a truck would operate with a 4-axle drawbar trailer.

I am not a fan of the recent updating/restyling of the Isuzu cab front, particularly the upper grille area with its six black areas as well as the gap below it which gives the appearance of there being something missing.
