Dacha Project

July 21, 2010

Our friends Libby & Tristan built a gypsy wagon on a trailer bed and towed it from New Mexico to the Northeast behind their Hyundai. It's now their very own little house!

Tristan begins to level the wagon and generally prep it for a four day stay at the Dacha. The process takes about twenty minutes.

The crew pitches in to complete the subfloor systems

The POD, installed since 2010 at COSI, looking a little weathered but still very stylish, and a fine complement to other outdoor exhibits (for example, one where a single person can lift a four-door sedan using the principle of the lever). See my longer discussion of its design here. I wish Lisa Tilder were still with us; I'm sure she'd have some good stories (and a few sarcastic gripes) to share concerning the project and its development.

I built in the heater for the Tiny House, into the dead space above the wheel well. It is also built into the custom built kitchen counter w/many storage drawers, using wood framed plastic storage towers. Screwing/gluing these plastic storage towers into the wood framework, makes these extremely durable. Plus if a drawer ever breaks, they are easily obtainable at your local Wally World.

As for the heater, it's amazing how these small 1500 watt units can keep upwards of a 1000 square foot area toasty warm, when used in a good insulated environment.
