Lighting is my favorite part of photography. I love the impact lighting has on a photo's underlying emotion, and for “Tinkerbell” I was trying to highlight lighting that was the main focus of the photo. I set up a low powered flash with a yellow gel in front of my model so that it was hidden by her body and positioned her in a sassy pose I imagined Tinkerbell in. Then I set up two low powered flashes with blue and green gels in a soft box to create my contrasting background. Separately I took photos of sparkles being thrown to add to the wings and baby powder puffs to blend with the background to make it look foggy. By merging all of these elements together, I was able to create a photo that was intriguing because of the dynamic lighting.
It was a "Tinkerbell" b-day party. I have a Tinkerbell brass stencil I used Embossing Paste with to create this Tink image.
I wasn't wild about having to use the computer generated words, but I was crunched for time! Made it the morning of the party! SO like me!!
Butter cake with strawberry filling and silk Meringue buttercream frosting (yum!). Laminated tinkerbell and stars.
All quilted with my signature swirlies, leaves, and flowers! Mmm the quilted flannel has such a wonderful texture!
Dang, I haven't quilted in so long but I was somehow able to quilt this baby in about 3 hours last night! That would have taken me several nights just a couple months ago!
It's about 35" by 48" and nearly done! just need to finish the binding and label tonight!
So when I was asked to do a Tinkerbell doll cake, please understand that I did assume that the doll the client was giving me was a like a Tinkerbell barbie.... but as you can see that's not what I got! hehehehe
Based on a picture I found and picture the clients sent me this is the combined cake. I hope it came out OK! I will find out I'm sure when it is delivered!
The doll came dressed with wings, I made the mistake of not taking the doll out till the last minute and discovered that I wings were stitched into the dress so without have time to make icing ones I've had to improvise with some silver cardboard and green glitter. Wire and pantyhose were suggested but as is murphy's law I couldn't find any pantyhose let alone white pantyhose to give it a go.
Hopefully she doesn't look too clunky! ;D
Also it took me an hour to texturize the grass with piping tip, I'm definitely not in a hurry to try THAT again! :D
