later in the walk home, came up to this scene. there was a bright light in the far right corner of the parking lot. as i settled my feet and raised the camera to take a shot, THAT light switched off. (you can still see the orange speck fading)
luckily i like the way this came out anyway
A friend was in town last week from Boston. He said he was planning to snowboard this weekend. "Where?!" I asked -- the mountains had been bare for weeks.
He was headed for Wolf Creek, but his timing would have been good even if he'd stayed in Santa Fe.

My Tiger My Timing kick off celebrations for the launch of their debut album 'Celeste' with a special show at The Lexington. The band from south east London, with previous releases on Kitsuné and Modular Records, have been described as "shimmery post-punk in which all the guitar lines dangle like silver filigree chains” (Drowned in Sound) and “alternative pop with a dark heart that’s bursting with desire” (Clash).

Various schematic diagrams made in lab reports or papers in my undergraduate years. All were made using circuit_macros + latex processing converted to postscript, then used ps2eps to properly crop the diagrams and then used the "convert -density 300 foo.eps foo.png" to get high resolution png images
I received the heads up that Iowa Interstate was running a westbound office car special a couple of days ago. At first, I didn't have much hope of seeing it working most of the daytime hours on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Despite that, luck was on my side when UPS called me in for a 4 a.m. start, and a shorter work day today.
It timed out almost perfectly as I punched out about the time IAIS was stopping in Rock Island. I quickly picked Derrek, who hasnt been feeling his best the past couple of days, up from daycare around 2:30. Because of this, it was going to be a one-and-done for us if we caught up. The train departed Rock Island 15 minutes prior to picking him up, and I had a feeling we were going to be playing catch up.
We hit HWY 6 and eventually did catch up just west of Walcott. We ran it down for this shot at the eastern edge of Durant, one of my favorite spots when we lived in Muscatine.
The light was excellent at this time of day, and this turned out to be a nice snap of a move that only happens a couple times a year.

Set up the tripod, aim the shot, check the traffic, start the timer, run across the road, turn and face the camera. Oooh - a bit slow.
We went to a nearby park for a walk on Mother's Day and happened to come across a couple hot air balloons getting ready to take off.
