After arriving in my hometown last December I woke up for a few hours at night because of jet lag. My hometown Schuders is in the Swiss Alps, 9 timezone hours away from home in California. I went to the balcony to take this moonlight shot. A few impressions:
- No sound at night, absolutely nothing - I only hear my own breathing and my hart beat
- When the sun comes up, the wooden house wakes up too, making cracking noises - houses here have a personality too
- My mom recycles everything, even a small bucket for metals - very little waste, she avoids products with plastic where possible
- My mom left her car for me in the village down the valley where I arrived by train (she had an operation on her hand the day before, and could not drive up to Schuders); she left the keys in a restaurant with a waiter she did not know - people trust each other here
- Yogurt here is so much better - no non-fat crap
- Eggs from the farm have a lot of flavor - food intake by chickens makes a big difference
I processed a balanced and a photographic HDR photo from a JPG exposure, blended them selectively, carefully adjusted the color balance and curves, and desaturated the image. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

About Nighttime
Night or nighttime is the period of time when the sun is below the horizon. The opposite of night is day (or 'daytime' to distinguish it from 'day' as used for a 24-hour period). The start and end times of night vary based on factors such as season, latitude, longitude and timezone.
Nights are shorter than days on average due to two factors. One, the sun is not a point, but has an apparent size of about 32 minutes of arc. Two, the atmosphere refracts sunlight so that some of it reaches the ground when the sun is below the horizon by about 34 minutes of arc. The combination of these two factors means that light reaches the ground when the centre of the sun is below the horizon by about 50 minutes of arc. Without these effects, day and night would be the same length at the autumnal (autumn/fall) and vernal (spring) equinoxes, the moments when the sun passes over the equator. In reality, around the equinoxes the day is almost 14 minutes longer than the night at the equator, and even more towards the poles.
It was great fun decorating this amazing build by DaD for our New Years eve party. Balloons, food, clocks showing the various timezones and of course fireworks!

Luvly place to go walking, found this scene on the travels. Such great views to the Rockies, pleased to have still had snow on the mountains when we were there. Gldeon is just on the timezone change to Alberta time.
My good friend Mel is about to have a baby, so it was a great day for her to escape and chill before the chaos.
She’s in Australia, but timezones don’t have to stop friends from getting together to catch up. And the gorgeous sands at Dusk Point was the perfect place.

Twelve and a half hours after we started our day with the previous photo, flic.kr/p/2jrmDNL , BPTLSBD425 has covered all of eastern Washington, the Idaho panhandle, and much of western Montana. The train has seen two timezones, a crew change in Hauser, and is now in the hands of an MRL Missoula West pool crew. In between, we have shot multiple trains on BNSF, UP, and the Great Northwest Railroad's Ayer Turn, before doing some abandoned railroad chasing and making a Spokane Trader Joe's run. As luck would have it, we crossed paths with the same train just before sunset and grabbed this quick photo as we were both on the final approach to Missoula. Home is in sight for the weary crew and the weary railfans.

For lack of a photobooth in Wellington we went into a Timezone gaming room and had fun with the StarCasting photobooth that Asians love more than anything (in Sydney there's an arcade with dozens of them, but all in some Asian language). In 2005 Swiss have proposed Universal Metric Time at the United Nations. UMT will be same all around the planet based on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) but in accordance to metric standard day is divided into 100 hours and the hour into 100 minutes and so on. The true benefit of UMT will be in international communication as we all , will be operation on the same clock. Canada and Switzerland are one of the first adopters of the standard. For the next year we will be using both types of time. It's expected that airlines will switch to UMT very soon as well. Time zones will not longer apply – 45 o'clock - will be exactly the same moment all around the planet. Personally I think that is a fantastic idea that will be bringing all nations closer.

Another set of characters I made some time ago. Wanted to play around with some Ninjago elements and stickers. I think the combination came out quite well. Lhoist's interchange job continues its second run to Rockwood as they cross the steel trestle over Piney Creek. This happens to be where the time zone changes from Central to Eastern Time along the Right-of-Way.

hello insomniacs and folks in other timezones! this took an age and a half to edit.
i sometimes think there is little i would like more than a pair of wings to fly on. and insect wings just fascinate me to no end--the multi-faceted intricacy of them, and the infinite control that they give.
i found a dead dragonfly in the road yesterday and knew i'd have to make this picture with it. i don't really think of myself as a heavy-duty photoshopper (and this looks uncannily littlefolkish), but this was what was in my head so i had to make it.
