The Red Lotus
The hardest friendships are those born in the midst of adversity. The Red Lotus clan and the Sakura Clan were once greatest allies that fought countless wars hand in hand in order to fend off other kingdoms from overtaking their territories. Both lands were rich in nature, fresh produce and animal life.
As the legends speak, an enemy clan disguised themselves as the Red Lotus and destroyed one of Sakura's villages. It caused retaliations and despite multiple pleas from the real Red Lotus clan, the Sakura clan closed its gates forever.
The feud continued for thousands of years till only very few knew of the history of both the clans. However, are the Gods and goddesses tired of this long never ending story? Is that the reason why they somehow brought both heirs to the throne to meet?
There is no such thing as a coincidence, they say. She was out on a mission, disguised as a commoner. No one would realize she was actually part of the upper world. He, on the other hand was riding as a soldier, no colors, no announcements of his true linage and no companions. They crossed paths during a rest stop at the same Inn located in between their territories.
There was injustice in view, some travelers were harassing one of the servers. She interjected, demanding it to end, due to her petite frame, she was not taken so seriously. When the brawl started, she was outnumbered despite trained to defend herself. Lucky for her, he walked in just in time and they fought side by side, just like their ancestors before them.
On discussions about each of their missions, they discovered they were of enemy clans. They should have ended each other then but considering they already fought side by side, it was difficult. A secret friendship was in order. They kept in touch through sneaky letters. They met outside their territories. There was so much discussions about the future of their clans. So much hope for a truce and an alliance once again. Only time was in the way.
She packed the best textiles and herbal tea for him to take back to his family. He would always play a tune for her and bring her the red lotuses from his lands as a symbol of hope for the future and betterment of both their people.

PS: Now away in Arizona for the next month so timezone should at least allow me to check out and catch up on all the pics while my European friends are asleep. Thanks for all the support and comments my dear Flickr friends. I have neglected Flickr lately but time is just manic at this time of year.
Lighthouses always intrigued me. It could be because at the beginning of our life we often look for guidance, for the shining light that shows us the way. I am still irresistibly attracted by these structures although it's mostly nostalgic these days, looking back at all those lighthouses I met along the way and I can only be grateful.
The second part of the story is rather ordinary... something like leaving late + 4 hours drive+ chage in timezone teleported me more than 1 hour past planned arrival time and the sun was already going behind Chicago skyline when I got there, therefore I missed the glorious Sun shot. That said, I still quite enjoyed taking this golden blu-ish-hour picture. Yes, small buildings in the back is Chicago seen over Lake Michigan (39 miles straight distance).
6 frames 30 sec each to get my total of 3 minutes exposure since I did not have the time to install the square ND filter holder, get the remote, etc while the last light waves of the golden hour were going away. But then why do we even use these flat pieces of coated glass in front of our hi-tech lenses?! Considering the results, you will probably find my fancy ND filters on ebay :)))

For Engine Room Logo decided to make their first themed head, MABEL-6 which comes with a removable head piece and an inbuilt cyber neck. Mapped to EvoX you can either use the skins included or your own as its ready to use out the box. I teamed it with FenDuDu's Knight Errant outfit which has incredible attention to detail, and ZAO's hair. Static's Astraeus Dial enlarges quite happily without murdering the prim count and could easily become a focal piece in a room should you want to make a plain wall more interesting.

Inspiration is from Alice in Wonderland with elements from both the book and the movies - mixed with a vintage feel. The pieces are made with this in mind, so each has a unique characteristic to it. :)

The repurposed door has a texture change script for two greeting options, and a bare option is also included.

With FMIX B23-7 3138 in charge, Lhoist North America's Rockwood turn crosses the steel trestle over Piney Creek in Westel, TN, with a cut of two bay hoppers. This is where the railroad crosses back into the central timezone from eastern time (EST). A later run during the winter months makes this shot possible.
When pottering around last weekend with the family doing some Christmas shopping, I spotted this street scene: two generations, two timezones, different directions, dressed in black or white respectively. I'm not sure who of them look the most 'dangerous'. Funny juxtapositions at several levels.
A reflection is always different from what it comes from...

Collaboration with Simeon, remake of 0.6 project. We were supposed to submit at the same time, but then we realised we live in totally different timezones and are almost never awake at the same time!
...and I've been dragged kicking and screaming into 2020! Along with a lot of Aussies, kicked it off with our iconic fireworks (with lots of yawning in between as it was well past my bedtime) and it didn't disappoint. Sorry didn't make it out to show you but enjoyed in the comfort of my sofa (have never loved crowds).

For those not quite into the NY timezone, wishing you lots of fun and celebration on your NYE.
Not sure this pic relates to NY but guess when we live down under beaches are always going to be related to Christmas/NY...my take stick = pen and sand = paper ... for writing our dreams and goals, at least it can be wiped and rewritten since some dreams and goals are ever changing.
Just look at the way this zone map allows for geographical variances. It reminds me a bit of political jurisdictions fudged here and there to gain the desired result...straight lines are not the objective! TIME is bent/relative to the needs of beginning/closing the day uniformly within a geographic region.
Time marches on.
After arriving in my hometown last December I woke up for a few hours at night because of jet lag. My hometown Schuders is in the Swiss Alps, 9 timezone hours away from home in California. I went to the balcony to take this moonlight shot. A few impressions:
- No sound at night, absolutely nothing - I only hear my own breathing and my hart beat
- When the sun comes up, the wooden house wakes up too, making cracking noises - houses here have a personality too
- My mom recycles everything, even a small bucket for metals - very little waste, she avoids products with plastic where possible
- My mom left her car for me in the village down the valley where I arrived by train (she had an operation on her hand the day before, and could not drive up to Schuders); she left the keys in a restaurant with a waiter she did not know - people trust each other here
- Yogurt here is so much better - no non-fat crap
- Eggs from the farm have a lot of flavor - food intake by chickens makes a big difference
I processed a balanced and a photographic HDR photo from a JPG exposure, blended them selectively, carefully adjusted the color balance and curves, and desaturated the image. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.
