Sicis is a tile store known world wide.

I don't have the $$ to buy a single tile, But it sure was fun dreaming about

it while walking the store...

Just amazing. If you are in NYC it's a must

I found these two headstones interesting as it's not often I see tile work incorporated into the memorials.

New year. More hard graft tiling the living room.

The cottage is very rewarding, but we are not under any illusion ... It doesn't become anything without a lot of bloody hard work.

Also pic of the day no 2 this year.

And six years on, it isn't only the tiles that have gone. This entire building has been reduced to waist level (or maybe shoulder level, depending on one's height), so that only a truncated brick wall now remains.

This site is on is on the north side of Cumberland Road in Bristol, where it runs parallel with the River Avon - behind me when I took the photograph - as it negotiates the New Cut. Cumberland Road is on my preferred route by car into the city from the west, so I have had plenty of opportunity over the years to see this structure's gradual decline, and to speculate about what will replace it. Ideally I would like to do a little research into the building's original purpose but, as is usual for me, time and inclination are in short supply.

Sunday 25th March 2012.

Here's a roughly equivalent view of the site with Google Maps Street View today (17th September 2018).

I have decided to begin sharing photos of Bristol from my archive again, such as this one. I recognise that these photos have limited general appeal, and I only expect Bristolians or Bristol enthusiasts to be interested in them. Having said that, any feedback I do receive is of course greatly appreciated, as always.

Several sheets of these tiles came into our possession. Really beautiful. We don't have a plan to use them . . . yet.

Australiana: decorative tiling close up.

Not sure what the small mammal is peeking out next to the gum flower, maybe a pygmy possum? Or some kind of mouse?

Another geometrical shot, some may say it echoes my way of organizing things, some may say it echoes my interest for the technical aspect of everything... I personally just love the balance between the rigid geometry and the randomness of the grain.

The Athangudi tiles are popular handmade decorative floor tiles, originating from the Chettinadu region of Tamil Nadu. Athangudi tiles are traditionally designed and completely handmade, which add charm to the interiors of a house. These flower tiles of Athangudi stands out for its class, bringing forth the rich cultural heritage of the Karaikudi. The raw materials used for making athangudi tiles are the local soil, cement, baby jelly and synthetic oxides.

Sand will be finely sieved and used as base material for the tile. colour oxide mixes were poured over a glass fitted with a tile mould.

the worker made the design by hand or sometimes uses moulds. over the colour dye, cement and sands were sprinkled and later pressed with a layer of cement and kept under sun to dry. The dried tiles are transferred to a water tank for curing.

after the process is over the tile is taken out of water bath and the front glass will be removed to get beautiful handmade tile, ready to use in floorings.

The superb glazed tile exterior of the Lord Clyde in Southwark is a joy to behold. The name and trade mark of the brewers Truman, Hanbury, Buxton & Co Ltd. is proudly displayed but the company was absorbed into Grand Metropolitan empire in 1971 and then merged with Watney Mann. This proved to be disastrous for the brewery which closed in 1989. In 2010 the Truman brand was purchased by two London businessmen and in 2013 they opened a new brewery in Hackney Wick allowing Truman's beer to be stocked in a number of London pubs once again.
