Handmade tiles decorate many of the side rooms off the old Park Station concourse.

This tile is cast in a mold, made from my original hand sculpted low-relief sculpture. It is glazed by hand. It is signed on the back and also has a wire loop for hanging.

In Greek mythology, Medusa was one of the Gorgons; she was infamous for her serpentine coiffure and her stony gaze – literally turning men to stone. Was she that hideous, or just a spell-binding woman?

Athena, Goddess of wisdom, after assisting Perseus in defeating Medusa, wore Medusa’s severed head on her breastplate. This design is taken from a Classical Greek statue of Athena

Medusa symbolizes balance – the balance of opposites; and power. Once a beautiful maiden, then a powerful being, she embodied the powers of transformation.

Got up early today to capture this, 6:30 am to be precise just as the sun was coming up.

We used white travertine tiles as a simple splashback around the kitchen sink

I can only speculate about the origin of this tile. Dennis of Ruabon and others, produced bricks, tiles and other terracotta items from Etruria marl found in Ruabon. Similarly, Etruria is in the Potteries in Staffordshire, so there could be a connection there. This tile was found fly tipped on the Blorenge Mountain between Abergavenny and Blaenavon.

I LOVE the Zsolnay tiles on the roof of this magnificent Art Nouveau building - the Museum of Applied Arts.

We visited this museum on Budapest's "Night of Museums" - an event that takes place every summer in Budapest. A modest fee grants you access to every participating museum in Budapest (which amounts to more museums than you could visit in a week) and unlimited access to public transportation for that night. Quite a deal.

Many of the museums were open well past midnight - with many hosting concerts, dance recitals, and special performances of all kinds.

Budapest is a cultural wonderland.

Some good news in the seemingly unending roadworks in the Old Carrollton neighborhood of New Orleans - new street name tiles on sidewalk corners, imitating the circa 1900 "Belgian" font. They look well done.
