One of the most famous Buddhist temples in Kanchanaburi is Wat Tham Suea or 'Tiger Cave Temple'. It is famous for it's 18 meter high Buddha statue called 'Chin Prathaporn', which was constructed in 1973. Supposedly there were tigers that occupied the caves on this site. The tigers are long gone and the caves are currently not open for visitors.

Whatever words we utter should be chosen with care for people will hear them and be influenced by them for good or ill.

~Lord Buddha~

Since I was mainly traveling in the car today, which is partly due to the long route and partly due to some detours that were very difficult to find (in Thailand, Google Maps doesn't recognize when a road is closed and keeps trying to get you there no matter what) I was only able to take very few photos today (3 to be exact). But I would like to take a closer look at them on the computer when I get home.

That's why I'm using a picture that I took three days ago during my visit to the Tiger Cave Temple near Kananchaburi.

I had hoped for a lot more from the view from there and was just a little disappointed on the way back to the car when I saw the setting sun directly in front of the trunks of the elephants that are part of one of the temple buildings.

Now I just had to position myself optimally and wait for the right moment. And I was more than satisfied with my visit here.

View from the top of the hill near Tiger cave temple.

That's the view you get from the Tiger Cave Temple in Krabi, Thailand once you climb the 1000+ steps (1237 to be exact :-)) to reach the top. I remember it was really hot that day and right after we reached the temple the sky got dark and it started to rain hard. After the thunderstorm passed in about 30 mins, the skies cleared up, the colors really popped and there was this sweet smell in the air that you get after a storm :-)

Monks watching the monkeys causing chaos - Krabi,Thailand

A short drive from Krabi town lies Wat Tham Suea, the Tiger Cave Temple.

1260-something (1237 before the reconstruction) steps up a massive set of steep stairs there is a massive statue of Buddha - only rivaled by the spectacular 360 degree view of the surroundings.

We visited in 2015 and I was worried that my son (aged six then) wasn't going to make it all the way up - but he actually flew up the stairs way easier than me and the wife did.

The 1200 steps are worth the effort when you're greeted at the top with these spectacular views.

You get to the top by means of the longest flight of stairs I've ever climbed. At the time I took this, it had 1237 steps, but since then part of it has been renovated and it'snow 1272 steps (of varying height) to the top.

During our climb up to the top of the "Tiger Cave Temple Mountain" we were met by a family of monkeys. Had to stop and get some shots of these sneaky cute lil guys. :)

The top of the 1200 steps - worth the sweat :-)

The funky monk in the middle threw up a west-siiide gang sign but his dour-faced companion with the utilitarian pockets shot him a look that said, "You're from the far east-side, homeboy," and he quickly put his hands down just as I snapped the photo. It's been three years since Steve and I last visited Thailand on our Circumnavacation. My dad has visited on business before, but this was strictly vacation. The four of us (including my mom) visited Bangkok, Krabi (Ao Nang), and Koh Lanta. We ate tons of good food, climbed a LOT, saw a lot of temples, and enjoyed some unforgettable Thailand sunsets.
