Went to my doctor. New values of my thyroid gland & liver.
New instructions on the way I should live, the amount of medications I have to take.
His assistent had a sort of a machine waiting for me.
To check my bloodpressure. A whole day long.
I got it hidden underneath this T.
I won't go out.
The machine starts each ½ hour. It makes a certain kind of sound.
As if I'm farting.
You wouldn't like to stand in line in a supermarket at such a moment.

The community celebrated the life of Virginia Beach Fire Department Capt. Matthew "Chevy" Chiaverotti with a procession, including a stop at Station 7 in Town Center, where Chiaverotti worked as captain.
He died on April 17 after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
Loved ones and longtime colleagues honored Chiaverotti during a service at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.
Chiaverotti spent more than 20 years working as a firefighter in Virginia Beach. Fire Chief Ken Pravetz described him as a natural-born leader with a "heart of gold."
Additionally, Chiaverotti served as a FEMA search team manager with Virginia Task Force 2. He deployed to catastrophes places like Haiti, Puerto Rico and Florida.
Back in 2012, he spent hours at the scene of the military jet crash known as the "Good Friday Miracle."
No one can say for sure whether that caused his illness, but a hazardous mix of toxins filled the air and the ground that day.
Firefighters who are diagnosed with certain presumptive cancers can receive compensation. Earlier this year, thyroid and bladder cancers joined the list of cancers eligible for benefits. The list already included leukemia, pancreatic, prostate, rectal, throat, ovarian, breast, colon, brain, or testicular cancer.

nothing sinister :-) the thyroid tablets. after many many months i can finally stop taking them :-D
i still have to have regular blood tests to make sure the levels stay stable, there's a 50% chance it may go hyper again. but a 50% chance it won't. happy with them odds...

I'm spending loads of time with Bess as she was looking a little under the weather. However, it turns out she has thyroid cancer! I've spent thirty bloody years in cancer research and I can't do a thing about it. Apparently, animal oncology treatment is not as advanced as that of humans. She's always had a heart murmer that we've watched with treatment for a number of years, but this pretty much may rule out surgery. Really don't know what to do. Local vets say just keep her comfortable, everything inside me humanizes her and makes me think of the same treatment. There are perhaps two oncologists in the UK capable of doing a resection given the position of the primary. My feeling at the moment is to go to th specialist oncology unit at the Roslyn institute in Scotland. I know that this may well produce the same view that palliative care is the only option, but I feel I have to explore everything. However, it's Bess that's important so I just don't know what to do. i don't want her to suffer simply to salve my conscience. She's my dear friend, supporting me through all sorts, enthrawling me and always making me smile, she's given so much love. This illness isn't fair!
Anyone out there with dogs, or any experience of this sort of thing in dogs in the past please don't hesitate to drop me a line. I've the weekend to make a decision of either palliative or interventional routes.
Such wonderful, lovely souls shouldn't have to experience this terrible thing, no one should. How does one retain one's faith.

Chronic autoimmune (Hashimoto) thyroiditis. The thyroid gland is symmetrically enlarged and coarsely nodular. A. A coronal section of the right lobe shows irregular nodules and an intact capsule. B. A microscopic section of the thyroid reveals a conspicuous chronic inflammatory infiltrate and many atrophic thyroid follicles. The inflammatory cells form prominent lymphoid follicles with germinal centers.
