I traveled to Groningen for my BBC Newsnight interview with correspondent Anna Holligan and cameraman Suraj, sharing my opinion on London's lethal cycling conditions and mayor Boris Johnson's (TfL) policies. We went around to film in different locations, such as Central Station's bike parking garage and one of the city's squares. Of course I shot some footage too. The video will follow asap.
My interview will be part of an 8 minute item on BBC Newsnight's broadcast on Wednesday evening, 22:30 (GMT) / 23:30 (GMT+1) August 7 2013.

Standard tank action past the derelict buildings at the Thomas Bolton copperworks at Froghall. I posted a similar view back in February but decided to process another of the shots in a less contrasty form.

An ECOCHIC scent!!
By November £132,000 had already been raised through the sale of Tous H2O fragrance, these funds will be used to support water and sanitation programmes in Chad.
"The cardboard used in the packaging is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council to ensure responsible use of forests and the glass from the bottle is made from 25% recycled material and is 100% recyclable. The packaging is carried out in the Special Employment Centre of the Arco Iris Foundation, benefiting those with disabilities.
The ethos rings true to the product; with a beautiful transparent blue bottle inspired by a single drop of water, and an aquatic scent that is fresh and uplifting. The key notes include zesty organic lemon and organic lavender at the top; rose, jasmine and mandarin in the middle and warm white amber and cedar at the base. TOUS H2O is proof that beauty and ethics can go hand in hand"
Good! I hope it smells good too.
BTW when I have a lung infection I have to wear scent that strips the wallpaper if I get too close, in order to smell it myself.
This 'hole' in the wall of the front lounge peeps through to the family & dining areas, leading to the doorway of the gamesroom, through to the outdoors via the windows.
The roof has been covered so the sun shines through doorless doorways & windowless windows instead.
We are still patiently awaiting a plasterer!

... this plant sprouted and grew through the pavement on the sidewalk on my street.
Having messed up the crucial part of my last attempt here, I returned to try again.
Unfortunately, the offending roadworks that were forcing buses right off the road had been removed.
Still - this is Rydens Way after all, so it's not like there won't be any other problems! I'm sure there can't be many roads in the country that buses serve, that if a normal sized car parks up against the kerb, the bus cannot physically get past and has to mount the pavement or verge. However, Rydens Way is one of them. Technically (unless you've got a small car) just parking you car outside your house is causing an obstruction, and therefore illegal parking!
Here, the driver of 1508 (YN03 NCF) on the 462 is skillfully in stage 1 of passing these parked cars, going onto the verge to get round the Ford. Not as simple as just going up on the mud though, as there's a huge, nasty bit of concrete to the lower left of the photo, that would crunch the vehicle if it tried to go over it. So, once past the Ford, it had to come back off the verge, and inch between the concrete and the car I was standing in front of, which fortunately was a small car.
Not ideal at all - I don't think when these houses and roads were built they'd planned for everyone to have cars!!
Incidentally, there's more to the tale - as Solo 1511 was running the service in the other direction. Buses towards Guildford are on diversion to serve the south side of the green here too, usually they'd go straight to the north side. After dealing with the concrete, he went up on the mud to get past the Ford - but as he picked up speed, the bus slipped on some ice and quite violently swerved. Luckily, the driver did an impressive recovery and nothing bad happened.
Apologies to anyone who favorited this or four others I had to restrict/"close-to-views" and upload again today (I hate to lose the commentary on each, as well, though I have decided to save them in restricted form for future reference). I was getting a view for each of these five once about every ten minutes, though, and it must have been a bot or some such ("unknown source" is how it's listed in the stats...). I know something's wrong when even a mundane image is viewed more than one that is Explored... What a pain...
One more of the southbound ethanol train from Friday before last (5-4-2012), the end of which is still passing the grain elevator complex north of here at Sadlersville, Tennessee as they round the curve before crossing Bagby Road in Robertson County. I tried some slightly different processing here but probably should have toned the sky down a wee bit more in hindsight... This will likely be the last of these from this location and shoot (did I hear a sigh or two of relief? {chuckle}) ;-)

Cullman County has one of the most unique yoga studios in the United States. The activities at the studio combines traditional aspects of physical Yoga with Christian and spiritual elements such as scripture readings, devotional thoughts, and biblical verbiage during sessions.
Started by Debbie Leopard, Cullman's Santosha Yoga came about as a dream fulfilled for this long-time yoga practitioner. Santosha means 'Contentment' in the ancient Sanskrit language.
Founded by Leopard and a partner in July 2014, the original yoga studio was just that: a common yoga studio. After the partnership dissolved and Debbie re-dedicated her life to Christ in August 2014, she transitioned the studio into a Faith-based facility offering a wide range of classes ranging from Kids Yoga to Beginner Yoga to BUTI (Yoga combined with Tribal dance).
Cullman's Santosha Yoga also offers FAITHFLO classes which allows students to Praise Christ through the movements of their bodies.
Debbie has been consistently practicing various forms of yoga for 19 years. She has been teaching the art for 6 years. She is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) through the Yoga Alliance with 200 hours of accredited training.
Cullman Today recently visited Debbie at her studio and learned about her history and enthusiasm for yoga:
"I love the way my body feels after a good class. Relaxed and restored. I love the energy boost I get. But most of all the peacefulness of it. Non-competitive just letting your body stretch to its limits. And as a teacher to see a student achieve a goal. Well that's the icing on the cake."
That first image is of Bernice. She is a 90 years old student at the yoga center. If she can do this, so can you!

A bit of a nerd response today. The hole punch went through many holes to produce all the hole negatives lying on the desk, some of which you can see through the hole in the middle.

An urban scene viewed through a scrim
This is intended to be a sort of playful photograph, though I think it might be read as having a bit of an ominous quality, too, depending upon how you look at it.
I made the photograph from inside the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA). We are members of the museum and we go there regularly — partly to see the collection and the temporary exhibits, and partly to photograph the architecture, the people, and the urban environment surrounding the building. I made the photograph through a sort of scrim that was covering some windows, presumably to mute the outside light a bit. It was rainy, and a bit of water is running on the fabric of the scrim, and the overall effect is to mute contrast and detail in the urban scene outside the window.

Prowling through Papua by Frank Clune 1948.
The Australian author and adventurer’s journey through the wilds of Papua and New Guinea.
Clune visited Papua on military duty during WW2, and was fascinated by the raw native culture. He was soon recalled to Australia by General Blamey, following his criticism of the British military.

I paired up with De this week for the peer commissioned micro project, and we set each other a short brief to work on throughout the week. We set the brief to psychogeography, this subsequently led me to make a circle on a map, selecting an urban area to photograph, which ironically turned out to be an area I visit to shop but have never really photographed prior to this project. I produced a series of 4 images to counteract and provide contrast and juxtaposition to Dee’s outcomes, with a twist of including as De had suggested to also hint to my practice of Social Commentary that currently focuses on Social Media, particularly the notion and phenomena of ghosting, in this case created through the use of long exposures. This suggestion has made me think on my current WIP, and how I may include slow exposures to produce blurred ghostly temporal outcomes…
This is the underground concourse connecting the East and West wings of the National Gallery in Washington, D.C. - featuring "Multiverse", the light sculpture installation created by American artist Leo Villareal.
Our trip to Washington, D.C. a couple years ago was one of the more visually interesting I've been on recently. I currently don't seem to be taking many good photos, so I've been going back through the archives and, after a second look, have found quite a few more from this trip that I thought were worth posting, so here they are - enjoy!
FYI, here's the original set from this trip:
