This is a parasitic wasp that places its victims body in a mud cell and lays an egg on it. Upon hatching the larva consumes the host. Mud Lake WMA, Mud Lake, Idaho

Arms raised, reaching for the sky, half alive and broken. Brittle bones and tattered dreams, a picture tells of words unspoken. Bright lights and dark caves, my mind and soul are lost, lost sometimes, sometimes...
I get asked why I don’t write more, and to be honest, sometimes I just can’t make sense of my words or feelings. I’ve been in such a rut but lately I’ve been feeling better after realizing that part of the reason I’ve been so down could be laziness. I’ve been lazy, I’ve been gaining weight, and in turn my creativity has suffered, I’ve been lazy in my process, and processing. That all ended today, in hopes of being proactive and breaking free of what has been like heavy chains on my soul. Sometimes I just want to feel normal, like “tomorrow I’ll be better”.
A few months ago while out with a client we were treated to one of the most amazing, and strange displays of light, and clouds I’ve ever seen, with temps over 100°, and random lightning (no thunder) striking often and randomly. I was lucky to capture a frame with lightning while the sun was peaking through.
I have a drawer full of skeins and scraps of these embroidery silks My mother used to smock children's dresses for a lady who made them for Harrods.

We were at a fabric store when I noticed this display of thread. I just can't resist patterns, particularly when there is some form of variation which only accentuates the repetition. Here, it's the colors and the missing spools which really sells the rank and file configuration.

A northbound gets an "Approach Slow" at South Deshler as a northbound train K172 waits in the east siding, K447 waits in the west siding and yet another southbound shows at North Deshler.
Preys on insects and spiders. It paralyzes insects, buries them and lays eggs on top of the insect. It becomes food for the young.
The day started off quite nicely but by the time I got around to thinking about a shot for today, it was foul, so looked for an indoor shot. I threaded six different coloured cottons through the needle and twisted them up a bit. Taken in upstairs window where there was a little more light, trees in the background, gold reflector to the front.

I really appreciate your comments and faves. I'm not a hoarder of contacts, but enjoy real-life, honest people. You are much more likely to get my comments and faves in return if you fit the latter description. Just sayin. :oD

I am a threadpainter - and as I cannot blend primaries like paint, I do need many, many colours. There are about 750 here; these are only the regular weight threads. (I have 12 weights, silk ribbon, embroidery flosses, and buckets of yarn.) Half of my threads are greens-yellows. I tend not to stitch into sky or water in my work, so there's not a lot of blues. Most of my threadwork is the 'land'scape, stitched by free machine and freestyle hand embroidery. I'm moving into a bigger studio, and my daughter is anxious to have my old space for herself. It was her idea to sort my threads as a moving day project. : ) www.mysweetprairie.ca
Small treasures.
Most of these are wooden spools. My favourite is the small spool of "service khaki", it's only an inch high.

For a project for Caturah.
The process of making has been good for me. I like putting single elements together into a useful whole.
Mrs Nghien started spinning silk at age 20, and retired in 2023 at the age of 96. She was kind enough to set up her tools and show us her skill.
Truc Ninh in Vietnam has a long history of silk production. Renowned for its high-quality silk, the region has a strong tradition of manual silk thread production, passed down through generations. While facing modern challenges, Truc Ninh continues to produce silk, combining traditional methods with modern techniques to sustain this valuable cultural heritage and contribute to the local economy.

vintage spools from of my great-grandma's. They are varying shades of green, and I often wonder what she was trying to match to buy all these slightly different colors. Those wooden spools are so much more lovely than the plastic spools today.
