My favourite shot I've taken in a while!!

This pushed me over the edge and made me pick up a pro account :)

Definitely inspired by Anthony and Jeen!

This was taken for our Thread Count fashion feature and printed in the campus newspaper The McMaster Silhouette

Loving learning with strobes now, picked up a lastolite tri-sync bracket for my 2 580 exII's (thanks for the other one for now Jen) and an Apollo 28 is on its way as well, so expect much more strobe stuff in the future! It's opened a brand new door for so much more creativity and photos I could have never taken before.

It was absolutely pouring outside and Tamir was nice enough to come all the way to campus just to shoot this from his cozy home (cannot thank you enough). Played with the setup and lenses, the 24mm 1.4 II L was a giving too much dof, so I switched to my 85mm 1.2 which did the trick (and thinking back now, the 70-200 would've been amazing too) so I'll try that next time :D

Setup:

5d

85mm f/1.2 L II @ 1.2

Ab 800 directly behind subject, bare bulb, pointed up to reflect off the ceiling of a building @ 3/4 power

So many great images to choose from, but I loved this one in particular; just the movement, lighting, pose...it just has a really nice feeling when you look at it.

Thanks again to Sharissa and Ricardo! I had a ton of fun working on these and want to keep on improving with my strobist/overall camera skills :)

Here's one version of the threadcount feature that I shot for our paper this week! Been a while since uploading a diptych but I love the colours of the scarf and leaves along with the 3 circular balls of light :D

These were taken without the tilt shift this time round, opting for the 85mm 1.2 for the full body and the 35mm 1.4 for the closer up shot. I love working with shallow depth of field and strobes though! My initial idea in my head when thinking about strobes was you always had to stop down to f/4 or something and it was always back to front sharp, but that's not exactly my style ;) I love using soft light to highlight the subject and make things pop without a hard edge and too many shadows with a nice, buttery smooth background that really isolates the subject and itsn't too distracting and just looks really nice in my eyes :)

Little bit late on upping these photos, this is just a teaser though, one more tomorrow :)

Weather is getting so much colder now! I have to start looking at some indoor venues :(

Ricardo and I swapped lenses; traded the 35mm 1.4 for his 50mm 1.2 for the day to see what'd happen and I decided 50mm was too tight and he said 35mm was too wide so we were more than happy to switch back :P

Really loving the light that the apollo is able to produce and really makes the subject stand out. It lets me shoot in complete shadow as well and still get good looking images :D

New processing on this one as well, a bit less natural, desaturated and punchy highlights in the face!

Hope ya'll like it, more tomorrow!

Edited on my laptop at home...I have no ideas if these colours are correct since I can't trust my laptop display. I'll have to check and replace it later when I'm back in hamilton with my other monitor

Been taking a few personal photos during the week leading up to exams :) You'll be seeing more of Renee over the next few days as I post more photos from the shoot as well as by buddy Victor who I wanted to shoot for threadcount a while back.

If you've been following, Renee's been featured on my stream before for threadcount and she's also a fantastic photographer, amazing/most dependable friend, loves music and has the coolest hair ever! She has been lending me her lovely yellow road bike which she named bumblebee for obvious reasons ;) so I've been able to bike to campus and get some exercise these past few weeks and I can't thank her enough while I search for a bike to replace mine that was stolen in first semester. I wanted to take a photo of her with bumblebee and she just happened to be all dressed up for her thesis pressentation, so we grabbed some lighitng equipement and walked aroud campus until I spotted these lovely yellow bushes which I thought might look great as some bokeh while the sun dipped below the residence building behind us at golden hour.

We ditched the bike after getting a few shots and I wanted to grab some portraits as well before all the light died. I shot through a bunch of the bushes to get the lovely foreground bokeh (definitely inspired by Emily Soto's work :P ) and worked with the changing light and balancing the strobe or fill. This was also my first time really working with the Mola outside on one of my shoots and I have to say I love the quality of light it gives!! (again inspired by Emily and her work with the Mola Setti which introduced me to soft light with a beauty dish)

I'll have to write more when I get back from Easter dinner with the fam!

Even though I'm not working at the paper this year, I still like shooting threadcount (our fashion feature) styled triptychs :) Usually consists of a full body shot coupled with some detail shots of the outfit. Pretty much Look Book in print form.

I really like this set of images and I think the fall colours (what's left of them) contrasted nicely with Victor and for now I'm enjoying the post processing and will continue to refine it until I have a look I can call my own :P

All images were shot with my 35mm wide open. Lately I've been shooting manual, keeping the settings consistent, setting the white balance correctly and wb shift all in camera. It greatly reduce my post processing time since I can get the photo's colour and exposure the way I want them in camera and have all my images look the same instead of relying on auto white balance and aperture priority which give inconsistent results and "I'll fix it in post" just doesn't seem to be a good enough excuse. Why change it when I can get it the way I want straight out of the camera?? Took me long enough to realize this and I think shooting film and video have really lead me to this point.

Thanks for stopping by :D

Happy friday everyone! Hurray for making it to the end of the first full week of school D:

Another shot of Renee from our threadcount outing! The next one will be the actual layout we used in the paper, I just really liked the wide/tele portraits which give you two completely different looks and I was able to use both of Ricardo's lenses usefully :)

I really like the 135mm f/2. I'm a big fan of the 85 1.2, but the ergonomics, ridiculous sharpness and super smooth bokeh of the 135 are fantastic, so I hope to shoot many more portraits with it soon times! It's fantastic for both isolating full body portraits as well as these cropped body as well!

Didn't really need to touch these up at all, just cooled the colour temperature a bit because it was a bit yellow and bumped the exposure half a stop or so due to the white everywhere.

Really liked this whole series, thanks to Renee again for being such a great sport and I love her hair when she decides to make it big :) Hope you were able to nab those Coachella tickets today!

Oh, this makes me miss Miami. It's the bedroom of the fabulous Nisi Berryman, founder of NIBA Home. (Next time you're in Miami, you must go!) A Moorish-inspired custom James Duncan headboard sits against a mottled hibiscus-red wall. "The wall started out with me testing colors for the bedroom," says Berryman. "It went from there. The whole wall is hand-done, and it took me forever." The room's other three walls got the more usual roller treatment, but in the deep-pink hue.

The subtle paisley curtains are from Romo and the Maroc carpet is from NIBA rugs. Tucked on the Eero Saarinen Tulip table that serves as a nightstand is a big glass apothecary jar filled with bangle bracelets of all ages, colors, backgrounds and materials. She finished off the bedroom with linens from Archipelago in New York City and a throw and pillows from Threadcount.

Threadcount feature for this week's paper!

Melissa's a 4th year student majoring in History with a minor in Art History. She was wearing this large beautiful cable knit scarf that was perfect for fall, so I wanted to find some leaves that were still around to go with it. We started walking towards a bridge that I've wanted to shoot on that overlooks a large road which I think will look great, but it was still a bit too bright, so we continuted to walk just to the edge of the forest where all these trees and leaves were which worked out perfectly!

Brought out the strobes for this one because we were shooting at 5pm ish and since it was just daylight savings, the sun sets around that time, so when I had set everything up it was quite dark and natural light would've been impossible. Luckily the area we were in was devoid of any lights, so I didn't have to worry about the ugly orange cast anywhere on the frame. I shot with the 35/85 and 45 ts-e as well since I'm really liking the look it gives and it's razor sharp! I went a little bit too far here with the tilt though and should've stopped down more, but it's a learning experience. It was incredibly hard manually focusing as well since the 5d1 lacks any form of liveview and looking through the optical finder even with the eg-s screen was tough in the light condition...maybe having a modelling light would've helped out a bit.

Major thanks go to Justine for coming all the way to campus and helping out, positioning and holding the light since it was pretty windy and would've blown over otherwise :(

Really liking the venues that strobes are opening and that I can still get beautiful portraits even at night when I would've never dreamed of stepping outside and shooting something like this with natural light. I could've turned down the iso and raised the flash power or raise the flash power and adjust my aperture, but shooting was going well and I didn't want to stop to open the softbox and change the flashes (this is where the alien bees could come in handy with quick adjustment to power). Starting to wrap my head around all the settings so shooting is more seamless and I can get the results I want right away :D

Tried a slightly different style of editing as well, but I think it still fits in with my natural colour adjustments of things, let me know what you think!

This has been a year in the making! :P

At the end of last year, I had wanted to feature Collins as the last threadcount feature for the paper, but scheduling didn't let it happen so we never did get to shoot.

I had never really met Collins previously to our shoot yesterday, but I remember always seeing this impeccably dressed guy since 1st year around campus wearing fitted suits, contrasting shoes/socks/ties everyday! You can spot him in an instant around campus. I knew I had to feature him for threadcount and got in contact with him through some mutual friends.

Collins is studying psychology and medicine at Mac and is the the same (4th) year as me! He's looking to head off to med school next year, possibly in Australia of all places! He's extremely humble and was fun to work with even though we had to cut the shoot outside short because it got too dark (at 5pm?!?!?!) Trying to schedule another session for next week!

Happy thanksgiving to all of you in the US and happy Black Friday to everyone looking to get some crazy deals!! I hear 5dmkIII's are going for $2500! 0_0

Enjoy your weekend!

I'm going to be shooting a huge breakdancing event at our school tomorrow, so drop by if you're in the Hamilton area to support the club!

I've been in touch with Tyshan for quite a while! He's an super talented up and coming singer and had asked me a while back if I'd be interested in shooting the cover for his new single! We communicated over email for a few months and I finally met him for the first time and had a successful shoot yesterday night!

More photos to come over the next few days! This wasn't actually part of the shoot at all, he had parked his care outside the student center so we could load it up with a few bags of lighting equipment and I had been staring at the area in between the library and student center where the sun was slowly dropping, casting long shadows and spilling golden light everywhere, so I couldn't resist and told him to run over for a few seconds while I take a few quick snapshots. I love golden hour and back light and the weather has been incredible the past few days (it seems like winter is gone even though it never really hit this year) so I was happy to take a few casual shots like this.

Thanks to Renee for lending me her lovely camera (I need to stop bumming my friends' 5d II's so I'm selling my mark 1 and will pick up a used one soon since the price is so low!) I love the 35mm for these types of shots and focusing is always ridiculous on the 5d whenever there is any sort of light behind a subject...

His chain's outta place etc etc but I wanted to be really quick so we could get back to the car before we got a ticket :P

Lack of photos lately...busy with school blah blah blah >.>

Setup shot in comments!

However, am finally on reading week, so I have time to catch up on posting some photos I've taken and I had a chance to drop off slide film from my leica and hassy, so hopefully there'll be some decent ones to scan a few weeks from now...why can't I live in Japan where slide film takes only a few days and is not sent off to another lab...

Speaking of which, I was hanging around downtown Toronto, bought some cheap shirts at Topshop and then met up with Eric at Henry's where we were able to try out a Wimberley head (since Eric's in the market for one) and Mike who was helping us out even pulled the Canon 400mm 2.8 L IS so we could test it out! We found out Mike also grew up in Hamilton where we attend university hahaha.

Arguably the highlight of my day however, was when I spied a dude in a green canada goose parka walking around the store and I caught a glimpse of some of his tattoos and thought to myself he looked familiar...I stared for a while and he looked over and continue to walk over to the lighting section and then it clicked and I was like...that can't be...Deadmau5?? So I ask Mike to confirm and he nodded and says he comes in from time to time....looks like he was purchasing some hot lights and apparently he's a Canon shooter and owns most of the ef lineup. I had my leica on me and Eric forgot to pop a cf in his camera when he drove into Toronto so I asked Mike if he'd be able to take a pic of me with Deadmau5 and he was down, so after I saw him finish his purchase, I walked over and asked if it'd be alright, we talked about film for a second, he says his friends have told him to start shooting it and I told him about his new track I just heard the other day and Mike was able to snap 2 quick frames which will hopefully turnout somewhat alright because I was kinda freaking out a bit hahaha

So this shot is from a string of photoshoots I've been working on over the past few weeks for the upcoming release of Sex and the Steel City (SATSC) which is the paper's special annual magazine issue where we get to do some risqué photography with a small budget for some high profile equipment :D It's currently all finished and off to print!

I opted for renting an obscene amount of lighting equipment from headshots in Toronto (thanks Eric for the road trip and trunk space in a durango) which included 4 profoto acute strobes, a d4 power pack, chimera strip boxes, octaboxes a beautiful mola demi beauty dish which we've now purchased and should arrive shortly :D:D:D

It was a fun and hectic experience trying to organize many photoshoots with locations, times, models, gear and trying to coordinate everything to happen at the right place and time. I never realized all the ridiculous amounts of planning that had to be put in when I was just a volunteer the past few years, but now most of the responsibility was left to me and it had to get done.

Big thanks to the models and everyone who helped out with the shooting, especially Jon and Bahram for putting in many hours and helping with all the shots!

So this is David who's been featured in threadcount previously and I thought he'd be a perfect candidate for some experiments with rim lighting/stripboxes and I've been trying to get better with strobes with the guidance of Bahram, who's a lighting master.

This is definitely not a technically perfect picture, there is no fill at all and there are heavy shadows on the face, but I love the soft light of the stripboxes and the hard rim lighting it can provide as well. Just playing around and the setup can be seen down in the comments.

Here are the settings for those of you who have managed to get through all my dribble drabble! :D

Again…need to finish a blog so I have a place to post all of this so that people who actually want to read can do so and not get in the way of the photo…need more reading week time

*about the power settings on the flash heads...on the last day we had the equipment we realized we could change the power settings to f-stops...but the entire weekend we were using the silly wattage numbers from 19-999 hahahahahaha lots of chimping was done...

Teaser for threadcount this week!

Uber thanks goes out to Ricardo on the assist for this one, holding the freezing cold light stand, standing in for tests and putting up with all the mishaps well entertaining everyone :)

This was actually the most problematic threadcount so far (not model wise though, Sharissa was amazing) but in terms of location scouting and equipment malfunctioning D: I've never had so many problems happen all at once before!!

We didn't know whether we wanted to shoot indoors or out since it was frigid outside, but after seeing what Sharissa was wearing, we decided that we'd scout out a location, let Sharissa and her friend stay warm inside while Ric and I set everything up and call them out...easy enough, right?

WELL. We tried setting up on a path behind the residences leading into the forest but it was wayyyy too windy and the softbox was getting blown every which way (another reason why I really need to invest in a sandbag) and I had also realized that I didn't have the sync cord for the flashes and the bracket either so I ended up running allll the way back to the office to pick it up and back to the res. I had found a small inlet behind the res where the wind was being blocked so we settled in there and started to set up. I had recently purchased some honl gels as I wanted to have some cto to balance the flash exposure, but only had one speed strap so I shot with one flash on my lastolite bracket. The cactus' I was using to trigger would fire and then stopped so I swapped the cacti, didn't do anything so I had to swap flashes, moving the speed strap to the other and then going from there.....so after ALLLL of that we finally got shooting and everything ran super smoothly from there and we had lots of fun :D

So some poor planning on our part as well as not being prepared and then equipment malfunctions lead to some frustration but Sharissa was great and incredibly easy going :)

Super happy with a ton of shots from this shoot, more to come tomorrow!

Threadcount feature for this week!

Chanele's actually been volunteering for the SIl for a while like me, but I've never formally met her until now haha. She's actually in Communications as well (I'm in media/communications) and I've seen her around many of my classes, usually because she stands out with her sense of style, so we finally got her to be featured in threadcount naturally! She's deeply interested in fashion and PR and you can follow her over at College Fashionista where she does a more in depth fashion feature of trends on campus!

School's been picking up with assignment deadlines looming and school presidential campaigns kicking off this week as well as organizing Sex and the Steel City, our annual magazine feature with a chance at some really high production value photos. It's been an incredibly busy week and I still need to find some time to work on my blog and make some more posts.

I'm on the last shot of slide film on my Leica and a few more to go on the Hassy, so I'm very excited to get that developed soon so I can share some scans! I'm anxious to see how the slide film turned out and how it compares to colour negative.

Over the weekend I had headed back home to celebrate Chinese New Year (and to do some laundry :) ) and hang out with the fam, finally getting some more tennis in for some much needed exercise. My friend Eric was talking about all the squash and badminton he'd been playing lately, so I decided to stop by my summer place of employment; The Merchant of Tennis and Kane was fantastic and strung up a new yonex racquet for me before I headed back to Hamilton. I used to play a bit in high school and have always enjoyed it (more so than squash, less than tennis) and I got out yesterday to let off some steam and play doubles with Eric, winning 2 matches and dropping 1 xD

Production night tonight! Time to go on a coffee run before editing pictures for the rest of the night in our cave under the university :)

There's a photo talk tonight as well at the new media center and I've heard rumours that the 1dx might be making an appearance :O

I don't think my cactus' like to sync at 1/200th either...as you can see the bottom of the frame is suffering from heavy falloff (banding I guess?) so I think they only sync fully at 1/160th...hmmm

Threadcount feature for this week! For the print feature in the newspaper I took this image and mirrored it and put the text down the middle...kinda like the other threadcount feature I posted a little while back.

David's a 4th year Kinesiology student looking to get into physio therapy after he graduates. He's also a CA (floor don etc etc person who supervises/lives in the residence/dorm). Usually our threadcount models are chosen by the section editor, but sometimes when they forget or can't find one I'll ask a friend :P I actually met David back in 1st year, really cool guy, super fit and we met at the breakdancing club when he was still windmilling and flaring ;) He's found more around the gym these days though

It was super cold shooting this one and major thanks to Eric on the assist and David for getting through it!

I had major issues on the colour correction for this one. It was raining and the colours came out quite flat so I'm really not to sure about this edit at all so please let me know what I could do better!

I had the opportunity to feature Jeff in this week's threadcount insert in the Silhouette (the university paper).

Every week we find a fashionable person on campus, take a few photos of their outfit, ask them a few questions and have a small printed spread with the photos and bio.

The light was amazing the day we chose to go out! It was around sunset with some cloud coverage, so the light was soft and hazy but really warm(wb wise). I love shooting backlight and over exposing for the shadows for that bright look and of course shooting wide open with the 85L :)

Back to Hamilton for me!

Medium format colour shots to scan from the Contax when I'm back this afternoon =D

Also, thanks for my 2nd explored photo ever haha

Jeff's no stranger to my stream :P

Finally fit him into the threadcount feature for our last term after 4 years. Can't believe the time that's quickly passed by and I still remember that first photo meeting we met at.

Fantastic sports photographer and a diligent street photographer. He lives at the gym and the lab and has a taste for bespoke blazers and designer dress shoes.

Always an interesting character and never a dull moment with him for sure. We share many contacts on flickr as well, so it's nice having someone to chat with that sares those same interests.

The light was fantastic for the set of portraits! For this one I was trying to play around with the flare and caught a bit too much so part of his head looks like it's missing :P But I still like it and I'll post my favourite tomorrow!

Check out Taylor McCutchan's stream to see some expert use of flare!

Show Jeff's stream some love as well and he'd appreciate it if any ladies would please leave their phone number in the comments XP

Our feature for threadcount this week!

Ibrahim's a 2nd year Psychology student and was super easy going, great to work with and made my job simple. We worked quickly because it was cold and thanks to Justine again for the assist and even being a bit late for her next class XP

The actual one that got printed in the paper was a triptych but I really liked this initial image and had a second frame where he was posing the opposite way and was going to make it into a dipytch, but then I realized that I really liked the flipped version and it made some really cool symmetry when mirrored together so I went with that. Very lukbuk ish when I look at it :P

Just trying out something new again! Seems like the apollo 28" isn't half bad at lighting a bull body portrait when I have the flashes zoomed out to 24mm, maybe even using the wide angle diffuser would spread the light a bit more? I only thought that the softbox would be enough to like a 3/4 portrait at most, so I'm still playing around :D

Off to a breakdancing workshop with Onton and Antics from the Supernaturalz!

I've been loving the nightime portraits around campus with the black+white+gradient colour treatment lately :D

This is Jen, classmate from multimedia who was also in the threadcount photo as well, we're coming to the last week of class and I'm working away on all my final projects, not getting much sleep and porcrastinaiting by uploadng and editing photos like I'm sure lots of you guys do too! ;P

Just waiting for the first snow fall anyday now, it's frigid and I'll have to post a pic of my MOMA inspired gloves xD

Amy Seeley - Incredible musician I discovered a few days ago, simply amazing

This is the Silhouette's Features Editor - Tomi Milos! He's this week's ThreadCount feature for the Sil's last issue of the term!

I managed to do this entire shoot with the manual 85mm f/2 that I got from my friend a couple years back, I don't use it often but I decided to just go for it this time! Turned out pretty great, though it's a bit soft at f/2 so sometimes I had to shoot at f/2.8 to get more sharpness in, beautiful lens over all though!

+2 in the comments!

Please hit "L" for this one.

So back at school now, we had our first production night for the paper this past Wednesday night and surprisingly I was able to get out before 1 a.m! I thought it was going to be much rougher...but Ricardo, Joy and myself in the photo office separated from the rest of the editors in our own little room ended up singing some Lionel Richie's "All Night Long" the epic Phil Collins drum solo and our latest addiction, Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know" of which I now know all the lyrics...

But before I was able to enjoy the ridiculousness, I had a threadcount feature to shoot and edit because we hadn't had a model lined up earlier in the week. Luckily I was able to get in touch with my friend and fellow photographer Renee and she was able to stop by in between her 2 thesis projects and rock climbing to take a few photos. Initially it was around 7:30 p.m and was quite dark outside and I wanted to shoot with my strobes outdoors, but after I had set up and shot a few frames to check my exposure, my flashes would not trigger at all. I was shooting with the usual cactus/syn bracket and 580's, all the batteries were charged and I tried fiddling around with everything for a while but nothing was working so I was quite devastated. After trying everything I could, I scrapped the flashes entirely and thought of a quick, well-light location around campus and of course BSB (or Burke Science Building) popped into my head because it looks extremely clinical, much like a hospital with white walls and bright lights everywhere, so we headed to the 2nd floor hallway, which was empty since everyone's either in night class or hopefully at home by this point on a Wednesday night and did a quick shoot :D

I'm really happy with the way the frames turned out, the lighting is so even in the hallways, so I just had to over expose everything to make it looks high key ish. Big thanks to Ricardo (Happy birthday as well buddy!) who lent me his 5d II and 24mm f/1.4 II L and brand spanking new 135 f/2 L so I could try them out! I can definitely see the difference between the 5d1 and 2 files in terms of overall resolution, but the huge difference is in skin/tones, it renders them completely different and more soft/pleasing I find.

Tried shooting a wide portrait for once and I really liked the perspective and symmetry of the hallway, colour version below as well as an even wider shot.

I edited these on my new-ish IPS monitor that has a sRGB colour space option, and I know when I turn it back to my user mode the contrast and brightness goes up to 100% completely blowing out the highlights and making these edits look crazy, so I'm not sure how these will look on everyone's monitor, so let me know if it's looking too over exposed!

TGIF.

Jeff be on his suit and tie **** ;)

Took my Contax along with my Canon while shooting the threadcount feature this week.

You can see how it looks down below! It's always hard editing photos to be printed in the paper. Converting the colour to cmyk dulls them and some colours convert better than others. We have to use a record colour setting as well to match the profile the printer uses which is WHACK hahaha. It's somewhat hit or miss every week on images since it's not a glossy magazine or something like that. This week wasn't too bad, I think it's a bit over saturated in person and I would've moved the box with his info over to the middle, but hey, what can ya do.

This was my favourite of the three shots I took. You can see the other two down below! Which do you like the most?

The Threadcount Collective (www.threadount.co.za) took a stand to showcase our fabrics at the 2010 Design Indaba Expo.

We all framed our fabric, and also made lampshades, books and bags to show it off.

11.12.09 67/365 I finally splurged on a serious luxury...sheets with a thread count higher than 250. Amazing. I'll never sleep on cheap sheets again.

We shoot a column in the paper called theadcount where find fashionable students and take pictures of them!

This is my friend Jen, she's in Multimedia and Communications like myself and has a great sense of style and a lovely big scarf for fall :D I need one of those...

Enjoy the fall colours! It's getting soooo cold over here...into winter jacket mode, boooooooooo. I'll miss these days...and colours

Been a while, still waiting on a scanner for my film negatives including the first roll off the Hasselblad I shot which turned out pretty alright :)

Back to school, working as photo editor at the Silhouette our university newspaper and shooting assignments galore, including our weekly fashion feature called threadcount, where we find students on campus with interesting attire and ask if we can photograph them!

You can view the online version of the paper here: The Silhouette Sept 15

Heading off this weekend to Ottawa for my cousin's wedding! So excited and will be lugging all photographic gear possible to capture the special occasion :D

Expect many wedding themed photo to ensue

Ernest will be featured in next week's issue of thread count in our school paper, and this is one of the shots we took down in the muddy forrest at the university! He was so great about it, thankfully wore boots and a shopping cart was conveniently around to hold all our stuff :)

Super busy week as school winds down, essaying like crazy and looking forward to the end of the week

Also been eyeing the Wacom Intuos4 small tablet for photoshop usage. Anyone have any experiene with it?

Tryptych to come tomorrow :D

Yelle's new album is dropping next week too, super excited! French electro pop anyone?

Que Veux Tu - Listen Here!

Alongside the Threadcount Collective stand at the Design Indaba Expo, we're running a Pop Up Shop at 45 Upper Leeuwen Street until 6 March.

Shot on my beautiful new 24 1.4II. Been absolutely loving this lens for the past week I've had it (or co-owned it since me and my lovely girlfriend split it).

As you can tell, I'm enjoying the wide distortion!

All bedrooms have down comforters and supersoft high threadcount bedding.

A shot from this week's Threadcount featuring Justine, a lovely lady that served me dinner at 1280 one night. :)

One of the first few shots I got right after I unpacked my recently acquired Nikkor AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8! Thing's a beauty! Sharp, clean and focuses super fast!

This is a collab between Farhang (pictured behind Hannah) Chris and I plus a 5d mk2 which Jon, a friend of ours let us borrow! Shoot for Threadcount of our final issue of the school paper. Trying out our two ab 800's finally and we had enough issues having them sync in the dark outside xD

No extension cords either, guess we need to invest...was so much fun, really cold, but completely worth it!

One week left of school, everything is quickly coming to an end and so much to do!

I love this song.

Lykke Li - Tonight

+1 in the comments!

Finally getting to editing the shots I took of Victor before classes ended. I initially wanted to feature him for threadcount, but we ran out of issues to work with :( Tried some new black and white processing as well, going for that grainy/grey wash/faded look.

Victor's in the same program as myself in his 2nd year. He's extremely stylish and runs a fashion tumblr which you should check out! He's been getting into photography as well lately, so I gave him a few tips when I shot and hopefully we'll get together in Toronto and shoot!

When we were shooting, I didn't think to charge the ancient Vagabond mkI (that my buddy Bahram had lent me for the year) I'm actually surprised that it still runs xD. I was able to shoot at the lowest power setting, which was fine since we were in complete shade, but after about 20min it started to beep very loudly and would not fire, so we had to call it quits :( I got enough shots to work with though! I would've liked to have some of him actually standing to show off his outfit instead of having it scrunched up, but that'll have to be saved for next time.

There'll be another tomorrow with comparison shots of the 35mm/85mm and 45mm tilt shift too, so stay tuned!

Off to eat before my exam tonight at 7!!

Threadcount from this past week with OIivia!

Just got back from Ottawa and my cousin's lovely wedding! Congrats Lil!! Had a wonderful time and lots of fun minus the ache of sitting in the middle seat of a sedan packed with 5 people for many hours trying to find a comfortable spot, but other than that good times stopping off at a packed tacobell/kfc road stop that only had 1 cashier working woooot :)

Fried chicken aside, wanted to try something a little bit different for this threadcount since it was quite dark outside and we were pressed for time, so I decided to dust off the strobes in our office and bring them up to the media lab. Waiting on some modifiers and a power pack so we can use them more often because they work fantasically for print, so we just shot 1 alien bee 800 bare triggered with my new cactus v5's which work incredibly well. Olivia's outfit was perfect for this because there was so much texture and shadow to play with so it all came together nicely in the end and Ricardo got to use his brand spanking new 24mm 1.4L II as well which is a gorgeous and incredibly sharp lens!

Back to school, lots to do, editing a few wedding pics and more to come this week!
