‘The Political Reporter’ is a new media installation by Boone, NC-based artist Mark Nystrom that generates random, but intriguing statements with words found on political websites and in the media. Sources include the Obama and Romney presidential campaigns, the Democratic and Republican parties, bloggers and the news media.
‘The Political Reporter’ animates a cloud of letters and periodically makes statements. These images are screen grabs taken while ‘The Political Reporter’ was running on Election Day and the day after.
Letters from words gathered from conservative sources are colored red and ones from liberal sources are blue. ‘The Political Reporter’s’ vocabulary includes over 70,000 words, but only 300 appear on the screen at any given time. As words are used to make statements, they are replaced by randomly chosen new ones from the list of 70,000.
MADRID, SPAIN - FEBRUARY 21: Half a thousand tractors and at least 100 buses arrived in Madrid to join the farmers' protests that are now two weeks old. Coming from several cities in the interior of the country, hundreds of farmers with their respective tractors arrived in the Spanish capital with the intention of standing in front of the Ministry of Agriculture on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, in Madrid (Spain). The unrest in the Spanish countryside, which for weeks has materialized with 'tractors raids' in the vast majority of Spanish cities, has reached Madrid. This Wednesday, at least 500 tractors, distributed in five columns and accompanied by about a hundred buses full of farmers, arrived in the capital with the aim of demonstrating in front of the Ministry of Agriculture. The tractors arrived from the surroundings of the capital to concentrate in a coordinated manner at the Puerta de Alcala (first point) from Torrejon de la Calzada, Arganda del Rey, Robregordo, El Espinar (Segovia) and Guadalajara. Spanish farmers and ranchers are protesting the crisis in the sector and the agricultural policies of the European Union, the Government and the Autonomous Communities. They maintain that their situation is extreme, which is why they demand urgent and coordinated action by the administrations. The demands of farmers are aligned with those of the European agricultural sector, seeking less bureaucracy, greater price control and stricter surveillance of exports. This protest in Madrid follows similar actions carried out in other Spanish regions, such as the 'tractors radis' in the ports of Tarragona, Mercabarna and Girona, as well as the entry of around 1,250 tractors into Barcelona on February 7. According to the Union of Unions, the organization that organized the protest, of the 1,500 tractors that have been mobilized, only 500 have been able to access the capital and only 70 have reached the doors of the ministry. MADRID, SPAIN - NOVEMBER 18: Thousands of people dressed in Palestinian flags and banners with slogans against the genocide in Gaza, are seen on Saturday, November 18, 2023, while participating in a demonstration in solidarity with the Palestinian people, in Madrid (Spain). Almost 3,000 people, according to the Government Delegation, attended the demonstration called in Madrid by several organizations against the genocide in Gaza and the eviction of the Al-Shifa hospital, one of the most important in the region by the Palestinian authorities in response to an alleged forced evacuation order that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) denies having issued, which has taken place completely normally and which started at noon in front of the Israeli embassy, on Velazquez Street, with a loud police device, and has culminated in front of the diplomatic headquarters of the United States, one of the countries that has supported Israel the most since its origin and that continues to be one of its main allies in the war that is being carried out in the Gaza Strip. Loop Palestinian flags and banners calling for a boycott of Israel and accusing the US and Europe of 'accomplices', among other messages, have accompanied the protesters, many of them dressed in the kufiya (the traditional Palestinian scarf). Gazan authorities have raised the death toll to more than 16,000 since Israel began attacking the Gaza Strip following the Hamas terrorist attack on October 7. (Photo by Hugo Ortuño)

After getting unloaded she wanted to take us about a mile down route 12 to a scenic overlook. This was a great view of the St. Lawrence River. From here we went to Morristown to check out the pier here and could the City of Brockville, Ontario across the river. Came back and had some lunch at Foster's Harbor Restaurant. This is where they store there boat for the season. Went back to their place and spent the rest of the afternoon & evening sitting by the river. Turned in around 9:30.
