I thought it high time for another University of Chicogowart's entry here on tWp. This is the staircase at the Chicago Theological Seminary; there is an incredible bookshop in the basement. One of the great remaining independent university booksellers, you have to go down a narrow set of steps whose door is in that little alcove near the center of the photograph and underneath the stairs on the left. The place is a labyrinth of bookcases and pipes and scholarly academic types. If you're a reader and in Hyde Park I highly recommend a visit - perhaps I'll pop down with my camera some afternoon and capture a few images for the blog.
I was captivated by the light that the central lamp bounced around the vaulted stone ceiling and, for obvious reasons, was reminded of Hogwart's.
Grade II listed.
A lychgate is thought to have been here since C14, and was pretty much rebuilt with the attached schoolroom in C19. The building was refurbished in the 1980's.

Life can sometimes be quite difficult for any of us,
when a little more room for thought can make quite a difference.........
"Always look behind you".....Last night I shared Saturday nights light display in Huntington Beach.... so tonight I thought I'd share Sunday nights light display- compliments of Rancho Palos Verdes, LA county and some stormy monsoon weather!!! :D This location was more up my alley as I had the beach to myself.... I did have to however climb down a dodgy very steep cliff to get here! It was worth it, right?
I literally was headed out on the freeway to Carlsbad or LaJolla (where there was only 30% chance of rain) and I saw this break in the sky over by LA/ Palos Verdes...so I drove that way instead.... so glad I did!! :D Hope you enjoy! Have a great week everyone!!
When I saw this scene I grabbed my camera as I loved the stance of this woman in this setting. However, I forgot to change the ISO which I left at 1600 the night before. With the camera in aperture priority at f1.8 the result was badly overexposed. However, whilst I could have recovered much more detail from the raw file, I still left it overexposed as like the graphic feel this gives the photo.
A lone figure in the minutes at the end of one day, and the start of the next... contemplating what has passed and what is about to start... A new day... A new beginning... no boundaries... no limits... only the ones we impose ourselves... Each day that we greet holds opportunities for anything and everything... We decide...

On our way back from Michigan my wife saw a sign for the world's largest mushroom in Middlebury. We were already on IN 13 so we decided to check it out. It is located in Krider Garden just a few blocks off of the highway. We initially drove past it because it was hidden by some shrubbery. I did see it on the way out and thought I would be looking at a very large morel, but I thought this looked more like the toadstools we get in the yard every so often.

I took this picture in The Netherlands. This mask is actually a huge and amazing sculpture near the seaside. The overall aspect was kind of messy, I enhanced it to make everything smoother and I repainted several parts in the face, the sky and the grass

There Are Obsessions
A poem by Peter S. Quinn
There are obsessions for every ride
Loneliness out there to stay
Shadows of night they sometimes hide
Into the morning and the day
Feelings of sickness everywhere go
Letting you down from the start
Something that only you know
Breaking and piercing your heart
Blossoms of cold in each fight
Nothing will give there any dream
Only the dark in the hour’s fright
With each their uncertainty beam
Oceans and waves that everything lacks
Believing nothing from its cast
Huge spaces of emptiness and blacks
All with their time to low and adjust
We are there standing in our wishing
Anywhere going for even some more
Part of us knowing some dreams missing
Nobody is forever of anything sure
Adapting footsteps through the streets
Of nobody's ways in a cruel world
Each of our emotion opposition meets
Scattering thoughts - dreams unfurled

On what is a lovely spring morning here. My thoughts turned to better days and being out and about. This photo taken at Chatsworth just seemed to suit the mood.
Thought I'd show something low key after the last post. I've come to love the solway coast, after a difficult first visit.
A heavy crop on this distant Hobby, not as sharpe as I would have liked but as I don't see them very often I thought I would post it.
