I will be away again for a week or two due to an ongoing family medical issue.

Meanwhile, here’s a gritty, grainy, black and white photo to contemplate. This normal telephoto shot is processed in an attempt to partially achieve the 'Are-Bure-Boke' aesthetic style of Daido Moriya. I skipped the excessive, heavy blur, but I did push the exposure and contrast to blow-out some of the whites and crush the blacks a little. I also added a homemade film emulsion overlay (lightly) to add some grit and increased the grain to replicate a noisy 6400 ISO to help convey some emotional and raw subjective expression. I suspect this young man is a student from Iowa State University.

I found these delicate blue flowers blooming quietly in the half-shade of a tree. The flowers were as small as 1 cm across and the grass hight was about 20 cm. I thought I had seen them some time ago...

Sisyrinchium angustifolium (Narrowleaf blue-eyed grass, ‘Ruri-niwazekishou’ in Japanese) is a perennial plant in the Iris family. It is native to Eastern North America, and naturalized in other areas including Japan.

Sunrise from Commercial St

Casco Bay, Portland, Maine

May 2020

I thought I would post this one as it has many similarities with my image of Boston Stump. For starters, it was an easy image to take as it was a straight shot, looking directly at the subject matter, but underexposing by about two stops in order to protect the highlights. I had to act fast because I was late getting to the location, so literally parked up and took the shot. I did not even set up my tripod as the light mist was disappearing fast, but I was lucky enough to be able to rest my camera and lens on a fence post. However, the relative brightness of the scene meant that I was not struggling for a decent enough shutter speed.

I thought the name of this narrowboat was pretty cool. It's one of the few boats on the Wey which is lived in all year round I believe.

I thought I'd have a look at some old unpublished images of badgers from the Peak District - for some reason I've not shared these until now!

I thought that this Heron would have no problems eating this long thin fish; however, that was not the case. I watched it struggle trying to swallow for several minutes. I finally walked away because I thought I might be putting off its meal. I was gone about 45 minutes, and when I came back the Great Blue was in the same place, but the lump was no longer sticking out of the side of its neck.
