Here is a striking Bembecine Sand Wasp (genus Steniolia, Bembicini, Apoidea, Hymenoptera) working non-native mint flowers in the garden this morning. Yep, they have remarkable goggle-like eyes - but what gives with that amazing "third eye" between its two real eyes - the mark of the Illuminati?? Yep, it's real, see this photo. #planner #thirdeye #doodle /…all I was searching for was me…/ - Ben Howard (@bhwrd), “Keep Your Head Up”
Dreaming of that face again.
It's bright and blue and shimmering.
Grinning wide
And comforting me with it's three warm and wild eyes.
On my back and tumbling
Down that hole and back again
Rising up
And wiping the webs and the dew from my withered eye.
In... Out... In... Out... In... Out...
A child's rhyme stuck in my head.
It said that life is but a dream.
I've spent so many years in question
to find I've known this all along.
"So good to see you.
I've missed you so much.
So glad it's over.
I've missed you so much
Came out to watch you play.
Why are you running?"
Shroud-ing all the ground around me
Is this holy crow above me.
Black as holes within a memory
And blue as our new second sun.
I stick my hand into his shadow
To pull the pieces from the sand.
Which I attempt to reassemble
To see just who I might have been.
I do not recognize the vessel,
But the eyes seem so familiar.
Like phosphorescent desert buttons
Singing one familiar song...
"So good to see you.
I've missed you so much.
So glad it's over.
I've missed you so much.
Came out to watch you play.
Why are you running away?"
Prying open my third eye.
So good to see you once again.
I thought that you were hiding.
And you thought that I had run away.
Chasing the tail of dogma.
I opened my eye and there we were.
So good to see you once again
I thought that you were hiding from me.
And you thought that I had run away.
Chasing a trail of smoke and reason.
Prying open my third eye

The Cape Buffalo is traditionally known as the meanest beast in the bush, prone to launch a killing charge at the drop of a hat. Although this is the natural reaction of almost any buffalo that is being shot at, many non-provoked, solitary males like the ones in this image also do it. They are taking a mud bath, but it did not make them any gentler. The most common species, a very large black-pelted grassland dweller, can weigh up to 1,750 pounds.
What I found ironic on this particular buffalo are the two small green leaves on his forehead, which look like green "Tilaka" or the "Third Eye" that you would commonly seen on Indians after a religious ceremony. It is believed to cool the person down or bring them peace.
In South Africa, we were out for a night drive where we followed a Pride of Lions tracking a herd of Cape Buffalos. One of the large lions jumped on the back of a male buffalo and tried to bite through his spinal cord. The buffalo headed at full speed toward a tree with low hanging branches and knocked him off.
Understandably angry, he turned around and charged our 4x4 at full speed. The Guide slammed the gearshift into reverse and the gas pedal to the floor. We went flying backwards over rough ground. The buffalo having made his point backed off on his charge.
It was one of the most exciting experiences on the trip, but not one that I would want to repeat.
Older males are generally forced out of the group. They tend to be solitary or join bachelor herds. You might hear guides refer to them as "old dagga boys". The word "dagga" is Zulu and means mud - it refers to the fact that they like wallowing in mud
Buffalo are the favorite prey of Lions, and where there are Buffalo, the Lion Prides are sure to not be far behind. There is a fairly permanent herd of around a thousand Buffalo that live on the Duba Plains in the Okavango and there are a couple of prides of Lion that regularly hunt them.

I am quite sure my wife will be horrified by this image...
What can I say? Last night I was really bored. Had a normal image of one of my boys and wanted to push the limits and try a few things I had seen before. Nothing original really. I kinda use these experiments to learn more about Photoshop and it's potential. They are always a complete learning experience. I am quite sure that there are easier ways to get to the same end result but hell, this is just fun.

A doodle and some musings in my art journal...
The words read:
there was once a girl who drew lines / down her face she drew spots and painted words / counting dreams in her mind / finding plastic people in her atmosphere / finding new language in her elbows / cutting through / feeling in / she finds her way by her art making / she navigates by creating her world piece / peace / paix x paix...
Dan Deacon asked several local poster artists to design a poster for Whartscape this year. I didn't have a lot of time, but I recently had this idea about the Third Eye Boner and I had drawn about 10 little doodles over it over a week, so it seemed to be calling out to appear on this poster. These are being screenprinted by Alex Dondero and will be sold at the festival.
If you can resist the impulse to claim each and every thought as your own, you will come to a startling conclusion: you will discover that you are the consciousness in which the thoughts appear and disappear. – Annamalai Swami ⠀ #meditation #consciousness #awakening #enlightenment #innerpeace #chakras #higherconsciousness #thirdeye #spiritual #mindfulness #namaste #mindful #spiritualawakening #yogi #om #breathe #spiritualgrowth #buddha #chakra #meditate #peace #goodvibes #yogaeverydamnday #yogainspiration #yogaeverywhere #yogapractice #yogaeveryday #yogajourney
