old pic shot with my rolleicord

Lately, I've been thinking about those pictures with people on the beach where the subjects are silhouetted against a strong sun that's radiating warm light and causing a loss of detail and contrast throughout the image.

So that, in a nutshell, is the inspiration behind this image. In order to get the shot, I used my Maxsaver flexible tripod to attach my flash to a tree limb that is directly behind me. I hooked the flash up to a Cybersync receiver set to channel 15. I set up my camera on a tripod and put a Cybersync trigger on the hotshoe set to channel 15. I then connected the camera to a Cybersync receiver (using a motor cord) set to channel 16. I triggered the camera using another Cybersync CST set to channel 16 that I'm holding in my (unseen) right hand. It took me a few shots to get it, but using the Cybersyncs to wirelessly trigger the shutter (as well as the strobe) really helped.

I actually noticed the bad flaring while I was shooting. I took off the UV filter, as well as the lens hood, and still got the same exact flaring. I actually like the lens flare, but I wish the brightest spots were uniformly round. I could have chosen another lens, but the 17-55mm f/2.8 IS was the easiest lens to use under these conditions.

strobist: 1 Vivitar 285HV, behind subject (facing camera), 1/2 power, full CTO gelled, attached to the tree with a flexible Maxsaver tripod, triggered via Cybersync. Camera was triggered via a Cybersync as well. Setup shot here.

For the resist and distress challenge, which is all this card is. This could be sympathy too, just a thinking of you card.

Not the greatest quality but even so, I love the look as the bird studies the water for movement. Hunting must have been not too good because he moved around quite a bit.
