Shared breakfast with this talented gentleman who you may recognize from his roles in "The Walking Dead," "The Wire'" and, most recently, "The Expanse" on SyFy. He graciously allowed me to take his portrait.
Jupiter three days prior to this years opposition, showing rapid change in visible features due to rotation (Jupiter rotates once every 10h!). The rotation is so rapid the planet noticeably bulges at the equator. The first frame captures the "flaking" of darker material from the great red spot, which may be reducing its size over time.

Individual images were captured approximately 10 minutes apart. I captured individual RGB channel video for each frame and merged the processed images.

What do you mean, you've never seen it ?

A sloppy marker sketch of Omar Little from the HBO TV series "The Wire".
For anyone who hasn't seen "The Wire", the TV Show is widely considered (by critics and the public) to be the best and most realistic TV show ever created. It basically tells the story of Baltimore's illegal drug trade from the perspectives of law enforcement, drug dealers, educators, politicians and the media. I admit, As I watched the entire 6 seasons over the holidays I struggled to understand why it was considered the best TV show ever. The plots are intricate and the characters were so flawed that I couldn't find anyone to root for. Ironically, the only character I really identified with was Omar Little, whose occupation was robbing drug dealers. Hardly a good guy, but he seemed to be the only character with a code of "ethics". Anyway, I've had a full month to absorb the series (and its intricacies) and can honestly say not a day goes by that I don't think about that show and its message(s). It's definitely made an impact on me. I'm actually prepared to admit it really is the best TV show ever created. It's had a profound affect on how I view the world that I'm still trying to grasp.
Anyway, for anyone thinking about watching the series be prepared, it's gritty, violent, provocative and disturbing. It's also unlike any TV show or movie you've ever seen. It's actually so uniquely different that it will ruin other TV shows you may have liked previously. That's not just me talking... other reviewers have claimed the same thing.

Around five years ago I found a new tv show to watch. It was getting almost no press, no one knew anything about it, but there it was, on HBO, waiting for me. I'd followed the creators of this show for years, through two books, one previous tv show, a miniseries. I was expecting something good.
What I got was the best show currently on television.
Now, whenever I can, I'll buy somebody a copy of the 1st season on DVD. Used to be, I'd get people gifts that I would want, but this is different. This is me trying to share something I find to be leagues better than anything else currently being shown on the idiot box. I'm an evangalist for this show, because I know that nobody watches it, and that's a damn crime. Hell, the guy who created it knows nobody watches, he cites statistics that show that many people won't watch a show with apredominantly black cast, that they instinctively feel they can't relate.
I bought season 1 for my dad. He watched all 13 episodes in one day.
I bought it for the buddy who lent me his apartment in NY. He's hooked.
Lent it to half a dozen other people, and they're all hooked.
My eleven year old brother watches it religiously.
My girlfriend digs it.
To watch The Wire is to love The Wire.
Why's it so good? Sheeit. It's about as close to a documentary on the death of a city as one can get, and still have it be an actual work of fiction.
Because it never condescends to the viewer, never makes any consessions for the viewer.
Because it's structured like a novel, rewards complete attention and has a cast that accurately reflects the city in which it is set.
Because it's about cops and criminals and port workers and politicians and teachers and ex-cons and lawyers and drugs and smuggling and murder.
Because the heroes are little better than the villians, and really, there are no heroes or villians.
Because they use terms like "murder police".
Because they've got names like Bunk and Bubbles and Omar and McNulty and Freamon.
Go get it. Give it four episodes. If you still don't like it, well, I'm not gonna judge...

Philadelphia 2008 Presidential Election Day, Point Breeze
My neighbor Derek called me and suggested that we go to some of the polling places to see if anyone needed transportation to the polls to vote. When we arrived at the Obama office in Point Breeze we were told that they didn't handle that and we would have to go elsewhere. Derek thought he recognized a lady in the office. He was sure she was from a TV show. We then found out it was indeed Sonja Sohn from The Wire, who plays Detective Shakima "Kima" Greggs. We were about to leave to go to another site when she came running after us to see if we could take her around to various sites to deliver umbrellas for people who might be waiting in line to vote and help get out the vote. We assured her it was not a problem. She is such a wonderful person! She was instantly recognized wherever we went. So, what started out as a hazy idea turned into a solid plan.

Child marriage is still widespread in India, which is home to a third of the world’s child brides. About half of Indian women were married before they turned 18. Moreover, one-tenth of them are married even before they are 13 and sadly, every second married adolescent girl has given birth to a child! More disturbingly, IndiaSpend analysis of recently released census data reveals that nearly 12 million Indian children were married before the age of 10 years, 84% of them Hindu and 11% Muslim.
Child marriage is a violation of child rights, and has a negative impact on physical growth, health, mental and emotional development, and education opportunities. It also affects society as a whole since child marriage reinforces a cycle of poverty and perpetuates gender discrimination, illiteracy and malnutrition as well as high infant and maternal mortality rates. Child marriage impacts on almost all facets of reaching the Millennium Development Goals.
Both girls and boys are affected by child marriage, but girls are affected in much larger numbers and with greater intensity. Child marriage can be seen across the country but it is far higher in rural than in urban areas. Girl's from poorer families, scheduled castes and tribes, and with lower education levels are more likely to marry at a younger age.
Although there is widespread awareness of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006 and the illegality of child marriage, individually people feel that the traditions and norms are stronger than the law and the institutions and rarely report cases. On top of this, there is limited capacity among Govt. officials and lack of willingness to go against community decisions, since officials are themselves part of the community.
Although child marriage is declining (from 54% in 1992-93 to 33% today), the rate of decline is slow. Broad, multi-faceted strategies are needed to target different aspects of the problem, including deep-rooted social norms and behaviours, the perceived low value of girls, limited access to education, exposure to violence, restricted freedom of movement and economic vulnerability.
