September saw the Friday Late programme themed around video games covering everything from the lo-fi and familiar to the new and cutting-edge. The Museum turned into a digital playground bringing together game designers, artists and architects who encouraged those who attended to get creative in unusual and exciting ways. Visitors could design alternative realities, explore independent games in our arcade of the future and build with velcro sculptures.

You get to a certain age and it can be humbling to realize you need reading glasses to see correctly... Thank goodness I did not get to all the water photos I was planning for this week before I caught my error...! Glad to not stop at the word between humidity and humility for this shot...

For this week's MacroMondays group theme of "HumiLity" (NOT "humiDity"), but did not submit it to HmM in favor of two other images...

This setup was frustrating in that I found out my daughter had sold our only large dictionary in this weekend's garage sale, and I had to scramble to find another dictionary of sorts...

November block of the month for the challenge on the RedworkStitchers list at yahoogroups.com. The image came from an online childrens coloring page site I think.

For this theme, I combined toy sail boats, toy trucks , rubber duckies and teddy bears in co-ordinating colors!

My plan did not quite work here, as I wanted to have more 'bubbles' but due to the lack of creative space, I could only have 5-6 bubbles per ducky, or you could see it as low sudsing bath. ;-)

(anyone else notice a trend?)

Weekly Theme: Roads, Paths, Trails

Week #7

Taken February 18, 2012

Title: Tow Path

Notes: I must admit that this is a theme and subject that always fascinates to me. Paths and trails often seem to elicit a bit of mystery and possible adventure in my mind. Where do they lead? What will I see? Who will I encounter? What happened to those who went before? So this week found us exploring one of my favorite areas, the Delaware River & Canal near New Hope, PA and Lambertville, NJ, both offering many miles of trails, scenic vistas, bridges and quiet dappled paths. I certainly had a lot of different shots to choose from, which was nice :-). However, this view looking south along the canal's tow path, with the dappled sunlight and distant bridge over a canal lock drew me in and won out :-).

Self portrait theme for our Island Eye's group.

I processed this using the aged photo setting in Lightroom. Photo shot using a mirror.

We stayed at the Fort Marcy Hotel Suites Condominium in Santa Fe & it was beautifully decorated with various Southwest themed sculptures, painting and accent pieces.

The theme in the 52.5 of 2010 group is "Depth of Field." I was surprised to find that I struggled to come up with a decent photo, and I knew I had to figure out something this weekend. A dogwood tree provided the solution. View On Black

SWEET! - " GRANDCHILDREN"

Look at these two "Sweet" little girls hugging, my darling Granddaughters, Julie Violet and Ava Rose.

Julie is three and always on the go since she arrived and so I nicknamed her Jellybean. Ava who is six, was so tiny when she was born and so fragile at 4.4 lbs. and I nicknamed her "Sugarplum".

I have watched these two loves of my life grow from tiny babies into two lovely little girls.

Sisters, with hearts of gold and cheery smiles makes me proud to be their "Grandma".

I continue to learn through the eyes of my two Sweethearts, my precious grandchildren whom I forever treasure and love.

Drawing and painting plant life was the theme of this painting demonstration by botanical illustrator Pat Doyne. Doyne’s exhibit currently on display on the 2nd floor of the Hayward Downtown Library showcases a collection of watercolors until August 6, 2022.

Pat Doyne used Koi Watercolors by Sakura of America in this demonstration, and invited participants to sketch, with pencil on paper, botanical examples she provided. Pat guided illustration through observation-focused exercises. Thanks to Sakura of America, every participant who registered and attended this art demonstration was presented with a free Koi Watercolor set of 12 colors and paintbrushes.

Pat Doyne has been drawing since she could hold a pencil, and holds a BA in Art from California State University East Bay. Pat taught in Castro Valley for 25 years, and retired in 2012. That summer she took Mary Harden’s class in botanical illustration, and has been working ever since on “being true to the plant.” She is president of A.R.T., Inc., and is a member of Hayward Arts Council, the California Writers’ Club, and Alameda-Diablo Chapter of the National League of Pen Women.

Pat’s botanical paintings have been exhibited at many venues such as the H. C. Russell Library of Horticulture in Golden Gate Park, the UCSF Faculty/Alumni House in San Francisco, the East Bay Mud Administrative Headquarters in Oakland, Liberty Arts Gallery in Yreka, the Hayward Shoreline Interpretive Center, the H.D. Brown Gallery in San Ramon, the Castro Valley Center for the Arts, and the Lindsay Wildlife Experience in Walnut Creek. You can see Pat’s art work at www.sfbotanicalartists.com/pat-doyne

This event was co-sponsored by Hayward Arts Council, Hayward Public Library, and Friends of the Hayward Library.
