Taken in February this year off the Hilbre Island in the Dee Estuary, Wirral. It is my entry into the UK part of the Canon - The Assignment competition. Thank you to everyone who voted and helped get this photo get shortlisted in the top 10. The results are out on 6th June.

tried a few different ideas whilst out with my daughter at the weekend, liked this shot so wanted to use it somewhere.. think it conveys a feeling of isolation..

the 'lost love and loneliness' of the song perhaps? :-)

Within the 10 most voted photo of assignement contest by canon in 2008, but it was not selected by the jury for the first place in category... so I don't win anything :(.

Not a happy accident. I was looking through the viewfinder and was struck by the eloquence of the image. I know, always focus on the eyes but in this case, I liked what i saw and decided to ignore the rules.

Single strobe: Bowens Esprit 250 with Beauty Dish high and to subject's left plus one portable tungsten cheapo-cheapo strip light either side. Some post production in photoshop: levels and creation of partially opaque BW layer.

This Speed Graphic 4x5 inch View Camera is older than me, maybe more than 50 years old and still in a very great condition, not all photographers wanted 14 frames per second camera. I can live with this.

*The first Speed Graphic cameras were produced in 1912. It was standard equipment for many American press photographers until the mid-1960s.

I was interviewed in (SKOP) Aperture Malaysia Photography Magazine February 2012. This is their Facebook Page Aperture Magazine . This is not an online magazine but old school kind of magazine where you don't need a battery or power to read it. It was available here in Kuala Lumpur since last Friday 20th January and I think by the end of this month it will be available across the country at your favorite newsstand and bookshop.

"the bends" by Radiohead is the second track and the title of their second album, released 13th March 1995.

Been a completely desolate week for me photography wise - have taken the camera with me everyday (as is now customary) but didn't take a single shot until this afternoon.

Went out to take some landscape shots of some trees on the hillocks outside South Woodham Ferrers in Essex for my View52 project when on my way back to the car I spotted this sign - and for some reason the song by Radiohead came into my mind - perhaps because I had listened to it last night whilst transporting passengers around from place to place - anyway - this is my first attempt at a submission for the final part of the Assignment 2011.

The crowd was moving slowly towards the stage where our famous poet Simon Vinkenoog was reading a piece. She stood still for a short while and I found that intrigueing. She found someone pointing a lense at her intrigueing as well, obviously.

And no, I didn't leave the 'contrast' button in Lightroom untouched (I rarely do).
