all against the watchtower

reminds me of "all along the watchtower°:

" Jimi Hendrix, probably one of the greatest guitarists of all time, in 1968 covered "All along the watchtower," a song originally written and performed a few months earlier by Bob Dylan. Even though Hendrix 's admiration for Dylan 's work was well known , his choice to cover a song belonging to a completely different music genre is emblematic.°zit n. www.ipl.org/essay/All-Along-The-Watchtower-Analysis

Texting on Black

This is taken on Canal Street near Broadway in NYC. I liked the bustle in the scene and how the lady in the mural seemed to be looking down upon us or at least upon the music note guy texting....:-)))

A Buddhist monk using a mobile phone to text a friend

Finally a project that doesn't involve software, hardware, computer code or math!

We had to edit this photo in photoshop with blending layers, textures, adjustment layers. I didn't realize until I finished and reread the assignment instructions we were supposed to add text with properties - so I took the lyrics from the song I was listening to while working on the project. Metric- Dreams so Real.

Fun. Okay back to math and programming. <3

Where would be be without our mobile phones..?

Chrissy and I began our photoshoot on my back porch here in southwestern Florida. In this shot, she was sitting on the porch swing and using her iPhone to text friends out west (where it was considerably colder).

food is the enemy

Anorexia nervosa (AN) is an eating disorder characterized by refusal to maintain a healthy body weight, and an obsessive fear of gaining weight due to a distorted self image which may be maintained by various cognitive biases that alter how the affected individual evaluates and thinks about their body, food and eating. AN is a serious mental illness with morbidity and mortality rates as high as those seen in any psychiatric illness.

While the stereotype is that AN affects young white women, it can affect men and women of all ages, races, socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.

While there are various characteristic behavioral and physical signs associated with anorexia nervosa, not every sign is manifested in every individual. In addition to the visibly obvious dermatological signs like growing body and facial hair called lanugo, it causes dental cavities and tooth loss, the abdomen may become distended, and the joints may become swollen. The type and severity of the signs and symptoms vary in each case and may be present but not readily apparent. Anorexia nervosa and the associated malnutrition that results from self-imposed starvation, can cause severe complications in every major organ system in the body.

About a week ago, I got a text from fellow Flickrite Matt Batryn-Rodriguez, asking if I would like to accompany him on a photo safari. Matt was looking to go after the Portland & Western's Toledo Patch, which runs from Toledo, Oregon to Albany on Saturday mornings. It is the only weekend operation on PNWR's line to Toledo west of Corvallis. I thought it sounded like a great way to spend a Saturday.

When Genesee & Wyoming started operating on the former Southern Pacific Toledo Branch in 1993, service over the 75-mile-long line ran daily. Aside from some 35 mph running in the Willamette Valley between Albany and Corvallis, the vast majority of trackage over the Coast Range and down the Yaquina River watershed had a 20 mph speed limit. Crews regularly made the roundtrip in 9-10 hours on duty.

Today, outside of 25 mph limits in the valley, most of the trackage on PNWR's Toledo District is carded at 10-12 mph. The train to Toledo only runs five days a week now. It is called at Albany around 8 pm on Monday through Friday evenings. Since the crew can't make the roundtrip on their hours of service, a patch crew is called around 4 am to bring the train back to Albany. The Saturday morning Toledo Patch is a railfan staple, as it usually gets out of Toledo between 6/7 am and makes a daylight trip to Albany.

Matt and I met in downtown Vancouver, Washington at 5 am on Saturday morning for the drive to Toledo. We intercepted the train near Elk City at 7:30, and chased it all the way to PNWR's ex-SP yard in Albany. These are the photos from the trip.

In this image, the Toledo Patch gets a roll-by from a couple of local residents at MP 743 near Eddyville. This location on the Toledo District was nicknamed "Carverville" by train crews in honor of the landowner. The train is crossing Eddyville-Blodgett Road, which was US 20 once upon a time.

Text found on the historical marker (seen here on the right side of the front of the church building):

Founded in 1866 under the direction of Rev. Randall B. Vandavall, First Baptist Church East Nashville built. This building (built in the Classical Revival architectual style) was constructed between 1928 and 1931, during the height of Rev. W.S. Ellington’s career. Nashville artist Francis Euphemia Thompson painted the distinctive baptistry murals in the 1950s and 1960s. At that time the church served as a frequent meeting place for the African-American community during the Civil Rights Movement.

The Classical Revival building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

Three bracketed photos were taken with a handheld Nikon D7200 and combined with Photomatix Pro to create this HDR image. Additional adjustments were made in Photoshop CS6.

I was in a Disney mood today as I am trying to warm myself with warm thoughts on this COLD April day. Actually I had a chance to take an extended lunch so I was on my iPad making some plans for my summer vacation to Disneyland, as well as trying to pick which lenses to pack. ;-)~

I am not sure if I have ever posted this particular scene from "Spaceship Earth". This scene depicts early Egyptians who were the first at creating portable communication with hieroglyphs on papyrus.

Thanks for looking!! I will catch up as time allows. :-)

Thank you in advance for your views, comments, and faves. They are much appreciated!
