Started as a spur of the moment stream of consciousness piece, I planned to write indiscriminately about what I experienced, saw around me, felt, or simply came in to my head, on a single A1 piece of paper, without paragraphs or punctuation as a single sentence. I envisaged it as a sequel of sorts to my Sixty-Four Journeys piece, also an A1 piece of paper where I let the movement of modes of transport to dictate the lines drawn. Both would be collections of subjective data, random, illogical, unintelligible and messy. However, the projects diverged. While retaining the extremely loose structure and stream of consciousness format, the writing of the text gradually became less about sensory observations shifting towards emotional responses to the city around me. I wrote whenever and wherever possible.
I completed a second piece of writing, different in style in that it had punctuation and a specific structure, but still a single body of text. Instead of stream of consciousness I wrote three different accounts of the same imaginary city. It featured similar themes to the first, reacting to it, responding to characters and issues. Although very different the two bodies of text compliment one another; both are unexpectedly dark visions of cities and living in them.
Together they total 17,956 words. Both have been transcribed into a digital format and are available as PDFs. I plan to continue writing in this style.
