The camera is connected to the laptop with a USB. Software that came with the camera is running on the laptop. White balance, aperature, and other parameters can be set from dialog boxes in the software. The focus can be stepped in small or large increments, from the keyboard. The preview image on the laptop screen is thru the lens.
This is my latest attempt at achieving a longer depth of field in macro shots of seeds by taking a stack of images. The stack is later combined with other software, using the part of the image in focus from each layer of the stack.
It uses real time, physical world, data (in this case light in the form of x-rays impinging on a satellite in geostationary orbit), to modify the characteristics of the piece.
