Taking a bit of a break from winter with a look through photos from last September on Martha's Vineyard. Just booked our ferry reservations for this year's trip and looking forward to going back.
Rowboat tied up in Vineyard Haven.
An empty rowboat tethered to Dasashwamedh ghat at sunrise while the owner was busy looking for customers. He had evidently missed the dawn rush and was heavily discounting his fare.I was offered round trip to other bank at ridiculously low 50 INR!
I saw these three adorable dogs yesterday at the same little town where "Odette" lives. I always fume when driving behind a truck on the freeway and see that the dog[s] in the back aren't tethered down for safety.
The "doxie" was barking~the boxers were hot as yesterday was a 100+ day.
I once saw a dog fall out of the back of a contractors pick up ....fortunately it was on a quiet residential street and the dog was ok.

If you are someone inclined to look at exif data you would notice that after 6 years there is a camera change here. I am not one who needs to keep up with the "latest and greatest". My little D610 has served me well and given me many images that I love. However, my eyesight which has been poor since childhood has taken a nosedive over the last couple of years due to retina complications. I found it harder and harder to focus my manual lenses...especially my favorite old 135mm. Even on auto focus I couldn't really see whether my images were acceptable unless I was tethered to my computer and that was rare since I only do a little studio shooting.
For many months I deliberated over whether I could justify the expense...and which Nikon to go for. The D850 images had crazy awesome megapixel stats...but it is heavy and pricey. Then Nikon ran a sale on the D780 and I bit. I am so glad I made the leap...I can see so clearly through the viewfinder, and the live view option as well as the tilting screen have made the chore of shooting into a delight again.
So just as these fresh new ferns signal a new beginning with summer, so my camera switch is providing a fresh approach in my photographic journey.
OH and PS...if anyone with decent eyesight is looking for a perfectly good used D610 cheap, just let me know.
Please press L and view in full screen.
Thank you so much for your visit!

This reaction ferry is located at Eining near Weltenburg. It uses the reaction of the current of a river against a fixed tether to propel the vessel across the river Danube. During the winter period it is inactive.

To be alive
Tied to dirt and grime
Days and nights
To be freed
Away into the stars
Echoes of distant
Whispers and sighs...

This is an image from my recent Tethered project.
Tethered is a mixed-media project blending photography, animation, and traditional darkroom techniques with experimental processes and tactile materials. Through themes of grounding and isolation, freedom and rootedness, attachment and separation, the project weaves a visual narrative that explores the dualities of connection and solitude. Incorporating materials like thread, rope, food coloring, and elements inspired by landscapes, Tethered emphasizes the materiality of the medium, encouraging viewers to engage physically and emotionally. The addition of animation introduces a dynamic interplay between energy and stillness, enhancing the work’s exploration of landscapes as spaces of reflection, distance, and connection. By merging tactile elements with experimental approaches, Tethered invites viewers to reflect on their own relationship to place, identity, and the tension between solitude and belonging.
