This is the north slope of the Lingotto building roof oval test track. As you can see in my other photo of the south side, that is made of bricks. On this north side, the slope is of normal rubbery roof carpet material (don't know how this is called). On the right side you can see yellow round concrete balls (hover over the photo). I suspect that the roof is no longer strong enough to withstand cars going over the track. I assume the concrete barrier is installed to prevents cars going over this slope.

But I would do anything to be able to do 5 laps over the track with my Civic.

Colas Railfreight’s’ B.R Green Splitbox Class 37/0 No.37057 can be seen slowing as it approaches Syston North Junction working 3Z10, Derby R.T.C.(Network Rail) to Old Dalby with MENTOR test unit. The consist would visit Old Dalby for a 48 Hour period to undergo testing of the overhead line equipment and also for the test systems to be calibrated, the train will eventually return to derby on friday evening. I'm not so keen on this one myself, just the sight of the two splitboxes emerging from under cossington bridge gave me the shakes, also not helped by a frantic bike ride to cossington in which i had only just completed.

The 45th Monorail Monday image is of Monorail Orange making its way around Future World at EPCOT Center. I captured this shot from my favorite spot on grassy knoll near the Universe of Energy.

I'm not sure how I feel about the lens flares. I tried cloning them out then decided that they added a little bit of drama to the shot. I'm interested to know what you all think.

Thanks for looking. I appreciate feedback!

Today I spent a little cash on several old large format publicity photos. I couldn't resist this one, and being large format I felt it deserved the better reproduction Flickr offers over and above the book of face and such like.

This was apparently part of the testing undertaken relating to Plaxton's new Viewmaster body ('highbridge' Supreme) in 1977. Needless to say, its being carried out on a test track where the driver is putting the PSU5 Leopard through its paces whilst the NSF passengers seem to be having the time of their lives!

It has to be said that this is the time when trusty old chassis like the Leopard (built without anti-rollbars and plodder of a non-turbocharged engine) were beginning to be found wanting. Whilst its whizzing around here, a full load on a motorway incline would have it down to a very pedestrian crawl. The gate was being left open for higher powered foreign imports.

The coach in the picture was one of Manchester based Tatlock's Coaches who used the tern 'Scenicruiser' alongside the fleetname on these.

Some 4 km SW of Turin city centre, you can find the 1923 Lingotto building which was a FIAT manufacturing plant until the late 70s. There was a test track on top of the building.

Today it hosts a mall and a hotel. I was staying for one night and early morning I asked the clerk in the lobby for the key to access the roof. It was very cold but could take a couple of nice sunrise photos from the roof.

From this angle it has similarities to the look of an aircraft carrier or submarine.

The first time I got to know about the Lingotto building was via a car television programme years ago. I don't know which it was anymore but there was this guy with a, it think it was a bright green Murcielago, that just drove up to the gate of the building and with much confidence made some hand gestures to the security personel to open up the gate. The guys from security probably thought he was some kind of big shot with his V12 and they let him through. Within no time he was on top of the roof with his Lamborghini. I wanted to go here ever since.

How can you get on the roof? Two ways:

- I've been told that you can get on the roof via the Agnelli art gallery which is also on the top floor. Take the elevator from the shopping center and buy a ticket to the gallery (€10). I haven't tried this, I'm not certain that this still works.

- another way, what I did, is to get a room in the NH hotel Lingotto. At the reception desk in the lobby, you ask if you can get to the roof and they will hand you the key to the elevator. Get there at sunrise and the place is all yours. Have breakfast after that.

This is not really a 'junction' any longer as the line to the site of the colliery (in the bushes to the right of the loco) has been severed. The pit shut in 2015 and the site is being developed for residential use.

Why is it that when you want to shoot a picture of a monorail there is not one to be found? Patience is not a virtue that I am know well for amongst my peers but one of the tranquil aspects of photography that I love is that if you wait long enough more often then not the picture will come to you. Odd isn't it? Such is the case on the photo above.

Such a shame this test track lays empty, its amazing and so much potential.

Let's face it, the Test Track pavilion isn't exactly the most photogenic thing at Epcot, but if you go wide and fishy enough, it can be interesting.

I hadn't noticed before looking at this shot that there's a huge "TT" logo overhead as you enter.

On april 25, 2017, the SBB 502 403 made several testruns on the testtrack near Velim.

Before we leave the test track, here's another scan of a print bought yesterday. This one is on the face of it less exciting, but for anyone who's driven a Seddon RU, if speed was involved, its probably no less brave than the Leopard in yesterday's posting! The driver would probably be experiencing some degree of understeer here, and if it was anything like ours, whether it might stop in a straight line if required, or even just whether it might stop at all. Still, the operational issues with the type were unknown at this time and I'm sure the manufacturers had high hopes for it having seen the sales figures of the Bristol RE it was trying to emulate.

District Line CO/CP stock passing South Ealing station, on a bright sunny day in May 1970, with car 54214 nearest the camera.

The line through here was opened by the District Railway (later District Line) and Piccadilly Line trains started using it in 1935, and District Line services ended in 1964.

The track between here and Acton Town is used occasionally by LT for testing purposes, and so this would not have been a very unusual sight, at the time..

The CO/CP Stock were all withdrawn from service by 1981, and today (2021) there are four cars preserved, of which three are at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre, Quainton. The station has been 'modernised' since this photo was taken, and the platform access overbridge is now connected from the opposite direction.

When you're in Disney and you are taking photos, the best time of the day to get those really cool shots is during the golden hour. When that orange and yellow sun hits your subject, that's when the magic happens, turning your photos into something really special. How often do you shoot during the golden hour? Have a magical day!

More Lingotto? Yeah, more Lingotto.

This is the top of the former FIAT Lingotto factory and this was a test track. These big blue tubes in the middle of the track were added later. I think these are airconditioning exhausts for the hotel/ shopping center/ offices that are now making use of the building.

On the right is a big glass dome that you can rent to have a party or use as conference area. Great views over the city! Behind that is a helipad.

Imaging having a wedding up there. You let all the guest wait in the dome. The bride and groom come flying in in an Airwolf and land on the helipad. youtu.be/ULfmowbNlK0

Here are some photos of the new Amtrak Acela train rolling past the Topeka station this morning. I would've loved to have gotten some sunlight on it, but that wasn't in the cards for me today. Sunlight or no, I'm going to get out and photograph an Acela in Kansas.

After checking the weather for days, on Thursday morning June, 29 I decided to head east as weather forecasts were showing it was the only direction with a chance of good weather.

Riding with me that day was my mother who was visiting for the week and my wife. It was out the door at 5 AM, and eastbound we headed. All week long the smoke from the Canadian wildfires had been chocking out any sun there had been. By Painsville, OH, we were in full sun. We eventually made it to Erie, PA.

With a heads up from a friend, I was informed that even though workers were striking at the Wabtec management would be out testing locomotives and off to the Erie East Commercial test track we headed.

Not long after arriving at the only grade crossing on the test track 4 units made a slow pass eastbound. Knowing it would not be long before they came back west and I set up for this shot.

Heading back west under a heavy load, at slow speed CSXT 7276 a newly rebuilt CW44AC, now a CM44AC leads GECX 2015 & 2014 both ET44AC's, and NS 7635 a ES40DC, back towards the plant.

The three of us hung around for 3 more passes while they kept testing the CSX and NS units as I changed photo angles.

Test Track is a high-speed giant slot car attraction at EPCOT at the Walt Disney World Resort in Bay Lake, Florida. The ride is a simulated excursion through the rigorous testing procedures that General Motors uses to evaluate its concept cars, culminating in a high-speed drive around the exterior of the attraction. It closed for refurbishment on April 5, 2012, and re-opened on December 6, 2012. It is now sponsored by GM's Chevrolet brand rather than General Motors as a whole, who sponsored the attraction from 1999 until the refurbishment. Before the 2012 refurbishment, guests rode in "test vehicles" in a GM "testing facility" and were taken through a series of assessments to illustrate how automobile prototype evaluations are conducted. The highlight of the attraction was (and still is) a speed trial on a track around the exterior of the Test Track building at a top speed of 64.9 miles per hour making it one of the fastest Disney theme park attractions ever built, and the fastest ride at the Walt Disney World Resort. After the 2012 refurbishment, guests design their own car in the Chevrolet Design Studio. Then they board a "Sim-Car" and are taken through the "digital" testing ground of the "SimTrack". Throughout the ride, guests see how their designs performed in each individual test. After the ride, guests can see how their car did overall, film a commercial, and race their designs.

This ride, by far, is my family's favorite at EPCOT (and possible at Walt Disney World as a whole)!! And you definitely feel every bit of that 64.9 mph...

Today's photo tour send us to Epcot for a shot of Test Track in the distance. After the sun sets and the lights from the buildings turn on, this is the place to get some really nice reflections coming off the water. This was also during the Flower and Garden Festival so they had all these really nice flowers floating on top of the water, making an even more beautiful scene. Have you ever captured this shot before? Have a magical day!

Opened in 1924 outside Detroit, the General Motors Milford Proving Ground was the industry's first. The circular high-speed track has 5 lanes banked for different speeds, the outermost 100 MPH. (And here I am looking out the plane window saying, "What is that thing? Particle accelerator??)
